Game Difficulty and Objectives
I often read posts here about x or y being strong or weak, and it got me thinking about how many different ways there are to play the game outside of character selection and how much they can vary any given players experience.

So I just wanted to get a general idea of how everyone plays Risk of Rain 2. I imagine everyone mixes it up from time to time but has a particular mode they favor.

Difficulty settings, artifacts, and plans to end the run (obliterate/beads of fealty+obliterate/moon/void/loop X times/loop till I die), multiplayer or single player are all things that change the gameplay experience.

Generally I enjoy playing Monsoon multiplayer without artifacts and attempting to loop as many times as we can till we die, or until someone has to leave soon and we attempt to do the next closest ending. If I had to choose an ending I kind of still prefer Beads of Fealty obliterating, but it's partially nostalgia from playing so long. That super scav can be an absolute beast if he gets the right items.

This isn't some get good thread, play how you want to play and no difficulty shaming or anything lame like that.

vanilla monsoon no loop frog%
occasionally put in command, but also add other difficulty artifacts like dissonance and evolution with it

RoR1 vet here; There's only one real difficulty, and that's Monsoon.
The real pros run Monsoon with Glass+Spite+Chaos

Command is literally cheating as this is an RNG based game and therefore you might as well just play on Drizzle at that point.

exactly this with a sprinkle of chaos if playing co-op

I have a friend that does Eclipse 8 with no items and it's some of the craziest butt clenching ♥♥♥♥ i've seen. The true Risk of Rain experience if you ask me.

I mean; Eclipse is just Monsoon with additional modifiers so...

They say the same thing. Most modifiers don't matter except for the permadamage one and once you get to voidling with that it's intense as hell.

You can really do anything you want and make it work if you know how to mitigate bad RNG and try hard enough.

Lately I just play Simulacrum at Monsoon no artifacts.

Or arti/engi at monsoon but I suck with arti.

usually just, Vanilla Rainstorm, but i am having quite of bit of fun in Simulacrum. Usually go for stage 8 obliterate since im not a fan of Mithrix

Monsoon just aint for me, played it only to get the mastery skins and purity, and never touched it again

Simulacrum is too fun, just need some more maps. Siphon Forest would be fun.

Solo I usually just do monsoon with no artifacts.
Multiplayer I just let everyone else pick what they wanna do.

Torn between long runs on drizzle for the sole reason of being able to loop longer before nothing spawns (its bittersweet) and playing monsoon because its more fun. I've done normal simulacrum up to wave 260 but haven't tried switching up difficulty there yet. I'm still trying to find out if enemies ever scale past being allowed to spawn like with infinite looping. Wasn't even the softlock bug that stopped that run (fps tank from spawn when enemies and self have tesla + void explosions). All modes/difficulty I switch up between sacrifice or not, and the regular game mode also switch up between pretty much all endings (except regular obliterate) within the first/2nd loop or go for infinite looping. Also switch up between modded and vanilla often.

The only multiplayer I do is with friends. Simulacrum is a fun multiplayer.

Recently I’ve been enjoying trying to e8 every character, but my actual “preferred mode” is probably monsoon no artifacts stage 6 mythrix

99% single player (don't want to play with strangers with no voice chat and my friends don't enjoy the game more than one or two runs every month TT)

I usually play either Monsoon vanilla, Monsoon Sacrifice (for quicker runs, but less now that you can't abuse the void cells) or Eclipse when I want to suffer in vain.

My go to path is obliteration at the first loop, so I enjoy my run a bit more but it doesn't last too long (also when I attempt looping til I die it's usually my computer that dies). When I get particularly good runs I either go see Mithrix right away, or if I have time I try to make a full loop, so I can survive against flying Lunar Chimera. They're my major issue about Eclipse and why I don't really enjoy this game mode.

Lately I've been trying to defeat the new boss instead

The few times I play with my friends, we usually play on rainstorm unless someone wants to unlock something that requires Monsoon, sometimes with sacrifice, and we either obliterate or go see Mithrix. Haven't played with them since the DLC
