Help with Commando: Rolling Thunder
Hey there. I'm relatively new to RoR2 and I'm trying to unlock most of the Survivors' abilities. I'm currently having trouble with the Commando's Rolling Thunder because the Overloading Worm is a pretty rare spawn. I've done many runs where I've looped 3 times and I only ever saw one (which basically instakilled me when it appeared under my feet lol).

Is there any way I can increase my chances of seeing one, like with specific artifacts? I'm already using the Artifact of Command to quickly get my Commando in an OP state, but I'm really not sure if any others can improve my chances. I thought of the Artifact of Dissonance to maybe let the worm spawn in any environment. Also, Artifact of Swarms maybe? Thanks.

I think the earliest I have found overloading worms is at stage 5 after using two mountain shrines.

Still, if you stay too long at Abyssal depths post-loop you're bound to find one, so take your time on that stage. That also applies to Rallypoint delta or sky meadows.

I don't think any artifact would increase the chance of it appearing, besides maybe Artifact of Dissonance (but every boss can appear in every stage and overloading worm is still credit expensive so it's not like it's a big probability).

What I think you could try is use the artifact of dissonance, sacrifice and command in Monsoon and reset in stage 1 until you find two mountain shrines. Keep killing enemies and getting items for around 22 minutes. Then trigger the teleporter.

If my calculations are correct, that will give the teleporter boss director around 4000 credits, enough to summon an overloading worm. I don't think it'll work well, though. I´d say... Keep looping, triggering mountain shrines in the stages it can appear and you'll eventually find one.

Oh, another thing you could try is stacking a few Defiant Gouges and prepare for the worst whenever you trigger a shrine.

But does the mountain shrine increase the chances of the boss actually being a worm? Wouldn't it just duplicate the worm itself if it's actually chosen as a boss?

What the mountain shrine does is increase the credits the Teleporter Boss Director gets, so that it can spawn more bosses or something bigger. More info here[riskofrain2.fandom.com].

Early game the director will only spawn multiple bosses because an elite boss is too expensive to spawn, but the further you go the higher the chance is that it'll spawn something bigger if it can afford it. I think I got my first scavenger because I used a few mountain shrines in stage 9 abyssal depths in rainstorm (Now I only play on Monsoon so those start appearing everywhere way easier).

I'm not sure if overloading worm can spawn before looping if you give the director enough credits but if it does, the artifact of dissonance should remove that limitation.

you generally have to loop to see it, also be aware theres a difference between an overloading worm elite and the unique blue worm with its own boss item of the same name.

Right. That makes sense. The wiki says that it's technically possible for an overloading worm to spawn before looping but it's extremely rare, so I won't count on it. I'll just keep looping with a few artifacts active until I get it again, and I'll be sure to use any mountain shrines I can find. Thanks!.

Yeah, it's very rare, normally. I've only gotten it twice (If I remember correctly) before looping and both times is at stage 5 after using mountain shrines.

neither magma worms nor overloading worms spawn as elites.

I'm not completely sure, but the Sacrifice artifact might help: because it removes randomly spawning chests from every stage, it increases the chance to get a mountain shrine. As other have told you, activating them increases the chance you'll get an overloading worm.

Nice, I'll try that on my next run. Today I did a 20 stage run with the artifacts of Command and Dissonance and no cigar. I stayed an extra amount of time on Rallypoint Delta and Abyssal Depths which are some the predetermined biomes where the worm can spawn in, but still, no luck.

I'll try all of these out plus Sacrifice and maybe Swarms. I'm thinking that maybe the increased spawn rate may give the director more chances to spawn the worm.

As far as I know, Swarm simply spawns two of the same enemy that would have spawn without it, so it won't increase the chance of getting the worm.
