Additionally, the two elemental bands are very good items for certain characters, which requires you open the ancient gate in the Abandoned Aqueduct. Easiest way to do that is with Engineer's turrets, but that might be tricky, since he's not super well suited to fight the miniboss behind the gate.
Also, the five-minute guideline is really only important if you play on monsoon. On lower difficulties, it's more important to get as strong as you can, even if that means spending more time on a stage, rather than outpacing the scaling of the enemies.
And, yeah, if you're struggling with the difficulty, play on rainstorm, or even drizzle. There's absolutely no shame in playing the easier difficulties of a game you're unfamiliar with, especially in this game where you can very easily increase the difficulty once you feel like you're ready for it.
Okay, so on easier difficutly and spend time getting items rather than be quick, and i should try to get high attack speed for that item, gotcha!

Monsoon and nothing but monsoon. This is the only way you learn the muscle memory for fighting engines and the importance of not getting hit. You learn very quickly how devastating a group of wisps are and how to deal with them. If you play on drizzle 10 wisps will be an annoyance rather than an immediate issue and you won’t be use to dealing with large sums of engines then.
You learn what engines need to be dealt with first - because you know what you can deal with and when to get out quickly.
Stage speed - so um this is going to be controvertsial. When I played I followed a 4 minute rule by heart every run. It can be helpful to follow this but once you are comfortable in the game time doesn’t matter. My friends and I take 6-7 minute monsoon stages at this point and it doesn’t really change much. This being said try and manage your time while still learning game basics.
How to manage time - stages are built in a way that they can be run through without covering the same ground twice. Get use to stages and when you spawn in locate the visible items on stage and build in a route before you start running around randomly. Take into account large areas you cannot sea, ie caves behind rocks/shipping crates, when planning a course.
Mobility skills cancel fall damage, use right before hitting the ground
Left. Just walk left. That’s it. Most engines cannot hit you when you move in a clockwise circle. Basically run large clockwise circles around engines and it will group them up in a center (don’t worry about it being like herding sheep they don’t need to be all together - the general idea is don’t have enemies on your left keep them all on your right, within your circle)
Jump - you should always be jumping while running those earlier mentioned circles
Sprint - always be running when you can.
Really the best advice I can give you is those 3: Run, Jump, Sprit
Honestly just have fun. I’d say the majority of entertainment when first installing the game is learning how to not die. You pick things up as you play that would have noticed earlier, things like lemurians up in your face while distracted means that they will melee and kill you, or beetles can simple be jumped over if you have more important matters, or KEY DETAIL standing next to a stone titans (the big rocks not the small clapping rock enemies) means that he will never use the laser attack.

Early on, the game doesn't throw many enemies at you and those enemies don't give you a lot of money.
Starting the teleporter event summons a boss ($) and makes the director more aggressive with spawning enemies ($$). So you want to activate it fairly early on in order to get $$ faster than you would otherwise.
That isn't the end of it though. You don't start the teleporter at 4 minutes and then go "welp, it's almost five minutes now I guess I better leave". Nooo. You want to spend that money, because otherwise all the time you spent getting it is a waste. There's a limit, obviously. Don't spend 5 minutes looking for one 25$ chest, but you want to spend your money. The idea is you start the teleporter at 2-3 minutes in, spend the money you got from it, and *then* leave so you can do it again.
Few things to highlight about this why. It's only important for early on. By stage 4, I stop this strategy and loot what I want before hitting the teleporter, because by stage 4 the teleporter doesn't give money a ton faster than just normally killing stuff. I'll commonly spend 10 minutes on stage 4 because there's lots of green loot and often a legendary chest.
If I hit a blood shrine or a combat shrine, I spend longer on the stage. I have more cash, and what's important is growth per minute not necessarily stages per minute. I have more money to spend, so I'm gonna spend it.
Aside from all that? Two most important tips in general.
1.) Never stop moving
2.) Never stop bunny hopping
More specifically jump with intent, you dont want to jump in a direction only to realize you are heading toward a now dying glacial elite's freeze.
enemies that are blue and and glowing are overload and they stop any of your health regen for a few secs, they are the most dangerous with the second in line being burning as fire in this game can hurt like ♥♥♥♥
but you should also consider doing multiplayer/playing with friends as the game can be really funny and chaotic then
Unlock stuff, find a character you like (some characters are naturally stronger and easier to get rolling), always be moving, always be jumping. And always sprint, that goes with movement, but using most abilities will take you out of sprint, so use an ability then sprint. It's a minor thing, but sprinting does make you harder to hit.
