Captain Hacking Beacon

Got a question regarding the Hacking Beacon the Captain gets;
is the effect of the hacking beacon map-wide, i.e. it'll eventually open all chests, or is the effect only in the direct area around the beacon?

Like all beacons, it only affects a small area. Everything in that area will be free to use.

Only things in the area. Map wide would make him so incredibly OP. It's already an extremely strong ability as is. It does make all chance shrine uses free, and any drones/turrets as well. In multiplayer, it's very common to find 2 or even 3 chests/shrines/drones that can fit in the area.

It is the same circle size as the other beacons and it's effect is in a dome shape. It is not a cyclindar going on fire vertical and down, but rather a sphere around the base of the pole with radius of what's shown. Take that into account when placing. If it's on an angle and something is below it, most likely you won't unlock it.

If you know where to find the legendary chests, those can be the best targets. It takes longer to open, but it saves you the most cash typically. Same for the massive drones, they’re one of the better targets if you’re on the proper map for them.
