Mithrix isn't very fun
Anybody else think Mithrix isn't that great? Not that he's easy, or too hard, or anything like that. Just that he's kinda bad and inconsistent. His phases are either easy, boring, or one shots. He's pretty much nothing but gimmicks, and the enemies in the last map are kinda boring.

On top of that, visually he's just an almost normal man with a stone on a stick that hits you in a big stone circle. He just seems so 'meh' for a god-king-like figure ruling over the moon and the final boss to an otherwise great game.

They made the boss too easy after their discord safespace cried, now he literally does nothing and dies in phase 4, tbh they should rework the entire final stage and mithrix again to be an actual final boss, but we have to wait like 8 months and pay for it instead lmao
I've fought him before they updated him and I still didn't like him.

It really feels like you either massacre Mithrix or he does the same to you. No real inbetween for me
I totally feel that. He's so inconsistent.
Yeah, I can agree to that. The fight can take a long time and isn't very fun. First phase is more or less easy depending on the character you play as, he doesn't have a lot of attacks so it's not hard to dodge. Second phase is filler, they could remove it entirely. Third is kind of gambiling if you were unlucky and lack mobility with the spinning lasers, at least he's a bit more dangerous here. And fourth phase does nothing, and is only fun if you got ridiculous enough that mithryx can do stupid thing, otherwise he just kind of dies so fast I don't even know what his paterns are.
mithrix is generally pretty awkward to me, I like that we have a boss that's super dodgy and fast in comparison to all the damage sponges that barely move (not that they're bad but almost every other boss is pretty static with movement)
the problem to me is that mithrix is both dodgy and has that lame "scaling armor/damage resistance" gimmick that some rougelikes like to put on their bosses for artificial challenge, leads to either a slow and annoying fight on first loop where one mistake as a melee character can lead to instant death
or on loops 2 and beyond he just kind of shakes his fist angrily at you and takes 7 minutes per phase (exception being the add phase) to slowly burn down his scaling HP since your movement by then is too good for him to do anything to you at all

the item steal phase is a mess, either it's basically a victory lap around mithrix or it's a slow burn where one mistake punishes you with instant death based on character/item order, I kind of preferred when he didn't just get magical immunity during the steal so you could atleast work on getting back a few items to start the phase with before he would fight back
also haven't checked if this was fixed yet but acrids poison DoT doesn't give back items like...ever since it has a proc coefficient of 0 meaning acrid fights where you don't get back your good movement or damage items right away results in a slow as hell fight where you camp and spam poison till he dies usually (this might be fixed but i kind of doubt it)

so yeah looping for however many stages then just going to obelisk is better IMO

did you even read the patch notes? the items are given back based on amount of damage dealt now.
A weird thing about Mithrix is sometimes when he moves around he actually pushes you out of the way of his melee attacks sometimes.
Yeah...He was a bit poorly designed. He really just begs you to cheese him hard.
Was playing loader and i was basically just running away from him, let him attack once, smashed him once. Waited for the blue nuke thing that spins so he stood still, used royal capacitor, rince and repeat. Impossible to fight him in a normal "dark souls" manner in one place considering how insanely OP all the spawned mechas are...

I literally had a harder time killing the mechas with shields (actually, i couldnt even, it was impossible) than i had killing mithrix

The first time I ran into him I was like "oh my god, it's faceless void" and then he ran at me super fast and nearly one shot me and it was "oh my god, ♥♥♥♥ this guy" and I spent the rest of the fight in stealth (Bandit) high in the air. And I think this is a major problem of the fight in general.

To get into that detail, he has no way to hurt a player that's up high and the game literally spawns pillars in the 2nd phase which make it very easy to hang out on and ignore his every mechanic as long as the player has some way to get up there, which they definitely should have by that point of the game.

His other big issue is that I've never seen him do anything in the last phase. He just gets hit locked, shelling items back out. Like, maybe it's a bigger issue for certain weaker base characters with no items, but I've never felt pressure from him even once in his last phase. Maybe he should not start returning items until he's lost some percentage of health first or even spawn some of his own items to make himself tankier that he can also then drop for the player.

Once you get over his initial shock factor, he's just not threatening unless you're playing a melee character that's forced to go toe-to-toe with him. If I were to redesign him, not only would I have the above, but I'd probably also combine his 1st/2nd phase and have his big attack cause the pillars to be destroyed (perhaps he just lands on the nearest/last one you were on, destroying it) with his final phase also destroying any remaining pillars at the start. Not to mention constantly spawning those aerial chimeras throughout the fight so that you can't just "be safe" by hanging out far above his reach.

My problem is less with the boss, and more with the stage. Trying to go to do mithrix tends to end with me getting screwed if I attempt it first loop on monsoon, simply because I haven't snowballed well enough to handle the flood of air and tank lunars that touching a pillar causes.

Yea, truth be told, the regular enemies are more threatening than the boss, but I think that's true of just about anywhere in the late game and even though first loop is hardly late game, commencement is always late game tuned.
Yeah i think providence was designed better

it's not that i can't have fun with him, but providence was made as a boss you could fight with no movement speed whatsoever, with proper wind up on all his actions. Mithrix, while he has tells, does NOT have wind up on stuff like his dash strike. there's no way to react to it.

He only has a few moves compared to providence's many that he cycles through in a neat little pattern. 3 swipes, then a downward thrust that creates geysers, and he teleports to you as well. And a homing attack which gets even wilder 3rd phase where he summons his umbra. Mithrix has dash swipe and slam...and occasionally shoots these spines if you're far enough away. His only really fun move is the wheel of death.

I get that canonically he's not gifted like prov. it's why he can't teleport on his own and made a machine for it, it's why he can't control worms and other wildlife or whatever and focused on constructs. But none of those are really well implemented in the fight. he could use the gates to send you across the planet or something and the battle can take place with changing environments (and it could work in the lore as him finally developing a method to free himself from his imprisonment). He could make a construct to rival the aurelionite or just have other unique constructs. could use stuff like lunar items in unique ways, like unfolding the time in the shaped glass to slow you down or some ♥♥♥♥ idk. He could be so much more fun and crazy

100% agree with Floridian there on every point.

Lack of tells. Uninspiring fight. Bland. Not taking advantage of lore.

I'll be honest, I had no idea about any of the guy's lore and totally thought that was all gifted stuff because there's no teleporting machine you have to destroy or anything like that.
on stage 5 i always rush to align the teleport with the planet and activate. If someone else get there and activates for moon, I'm out.
