When you start the game press "ALT + ENTER" and the game should become windowed. It should ideally run from here but it may take a little while. Afterwards, change your settings in-game back to fullscreen etc. and it should run perfectly fine after each start up.
It does seem the game goes into a bit of a freeze at start up, possibly fetching save data? Honestly not sure what the main reason is though.
When I boot up the game I hit alt+ent a couple times every few seconds, the game still freezes up and acts as if its going to crash but then it boots into fullscreen then back into windowed and starts the game. However this only worked 2/3 times I tried it and the game was in windowed mode at start (dont know if starting in fullscreen changes the outcome) Ill try looking into it more and maybe I'll find a solution
Last time I can post because I fixed it somehow. If the alt+enter method didnt fix it outright like me then clear your steam download cache and try starting the game without cloud data on (you can turn it back on after you run it once).
In the top right corner click the "steam" button, settings then downloads, clear download cache. You'll get signed out of steam so make sure you can sign back in.
after go to your library and right click RoR2, properties, general turn off cloud data then run the game.
This fixed it for me and now my game runs like it did before this problem. Hope this helps someone.
