Does this game not have one shot protection?
Just got 1 shot by a malachite lermurian on a 1.5 hour Loader run, feels kinda lame tbh

There is, but certain items remove it.
You can see it on your HP bar, there's an overlay on the first 10% when you start, that means the OSP is there.

In addition to above, there is very little (if any at all) time after OSP that you remain invincible, so a single attack that hits multiple times, two attacks very close to each other, or a single attack that applies a status like bleed, can still kill through OSP.

It was definitely just one attack, but I did have a shield generator item, and I know they used to remove OSP but I thought that was fixed because it was a bug right?

RoR2 players are on the average bad at the game because they have no awareness of their surroundings so Hoopo added a one shot protection mechanic, so yes.

OSP has always been a thing in RoR 2, but it's LITERALLY one shot protection. It makes it so one shot can only take out 90% of your HP. Thing is, it only prevents one source of damage. If you get hit by a malachite lemurian fireball and that brings you to 10% HP by triggering OSP, it's not going to stop the DoT the fireball inflicts. If you try and face tank a malachite wisp, that is a shotgun spray of bullets so one of them will proc OSP, and the rest will kill you. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up to each person. I personally view it as reasonable. I think if you get in a situation where you're taking heavy hits from multiple sources of damage, you oughta die.
Elites are borked and do too heavy of hits which is a separate issue.

Shield generators don't remove OSP, and I don't think they ever have. They *were* avoided like the plague for a long time though. It was a really common strategy (still is, vaguely) to stack healing items so you'd take a hit, drop to 10% HP, spam your heals and go to above 90% HP then take another hit. Rinse wash repeat really rapidly and you theoretically won't die. Shield generators would prevent you from going above 90% HP really rapidly if you have enough of them, since 10% of your HP would be unhealable shields. That could be what you were thinking of.

And Elder Lemurian firebreath damages you very quickly and you will melt in Monsoon. OSP can't protect you from ongoing damage.

I've lost a lot of monsoon runs to them... And Imps, for some reason. Their melee is fast and can easily kill you.

Basically... Whenever you get cocky in Monsoon, you die ^_^

It was one of those malachite ball things that the mobs with malachite on throw out, nothing else in my run had been doing any damage to me then I got one shotted out of the blue

Ah yea malachite delays all healing of any sort, they also do a butt load of damage, so its best to take those things out quickly before they get alot of those balls out. or it can REALLY mess up a good run
