Not sure if I agree with the "not using it as it was probably meant to be used" thing. Using it to protect you turrets seems like a perfectly valid strategy.
One could argue that AOE shouldn't go through the shield, but I think the fist from the ground is fair game.
I think shield is a fine item but honestly mobility is always a superior tactic. I usually use it more as a barrier when escaping.
The ability says it block "all incoming damage". It doesn't. That's bad.
I know how RoR1 played, I know how this game plays. Engineers are already OP. But I should not be ensconsed in a blocking ability that I'm lead to believe is safe, only to realize that I've been 1 or 2-shotted to death for no valid skill reason.
Also, I very often can't see the telegraph for the fist because the shield is overly opaque (plus there's often lots of stuff in the way or I'm looking somewhere else), so how am I supposed to know to dodge an attack that A) the game has told me I don't have to dodge, and B) I can't see coming half the time. The other characters are all moving all the time. The engineer is designed to stand still.
Youre not understanding the block all incoming damage. The SKILL blocks all incoming dmg. Where is the skill? Not aiming towards the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ground, thats for sure.
Its like saying an umbrella doesnt block rain because if the rain comes from the ground, you still get wet.
"block any incoming projectiles hit the barrier"
And that pretty much solved the OP's problem.
