You can, however, pause the game.
that's.. unfortunate. not everyone can play for hours and hours. you know.. work, family, kids, other things TO DO. and "pause the game" is essentialy the same thing as a quit-save system, only more dangeous and stupid (here in italy in spring there are a lot of thunderstorms, my cat loves to jump on the keyboard, and so on..). not asking for a save-system in game, only a way to stop, close and continue later.
I had to suicide a 2h run yesterday, it was incredible but I had things to do.
Rule of thumb I have been seeing for this game is to have at least 90 minutes to play for one run, as the vast majority of the runs in the game can be completed within that amount of time.
That's pretty wrong. Lots of them allows to save, pretty frequently even.
The best example of all being The binding fo isaac rebirth which saves on EACH room changes.
As other have stated, most adults playing games are usually interrupted (kids, mostly), and RoR gameplay inherently pushes you to never stop, so a 3h+ run is not unlikely.
An ability to hit 'Esc' > 'Save and quit' in 2 seconds (like, again, TBOI), would be very appreciated. Saving between levels, considering those are usually 10min long is a no no.
