Essence of Gold
The fact that the Aurelionite only drops a knurl doesn't feel fun. It removes a sense of replayability from the bossfight because there is no real reason to fight it.

So what if instead, the Aurelionite droped an equipment item that grants the player an essence of Gold?
(Similar to the essence of fire/ice items)

I suggest the following mechanic, which I think could make some really interesting plays:

Golden Nugget: "Become an aspect of Gold"
Effects:
  • Gold is always drained at a slow yet constant rate. Sprinting drains gold at aslightly larger rate.

  • If (Gold > Threshold), player becomes immune to all attacks. As long as the player is immune, the HP bar is covered in gold, and says "immune". The exact mathematical foruma for this threshold can be controlled for balancing purposes. Feel free to comment and suggest a threshold you think would work well.

  • While immune, Gold drain increases rapidly, which causes a soft-limit on the duration of immunity.

  • Cosmetic effect: player is coloured in dim orange-yellow for as long as the item is held. When they are immnune, change to bright shimeering gold effect (would help communicate it without having to constantly look at the healthbar and the amount of gold you have).

Interesting interactions with other items:

  • Brittle Crown(s): This would be double edged sword. At the very beginning of a level, the crowd would make it extremely hard to pass the threshold and gain immunity. On the other hand, once immunity is achieved and the player can no longer take damage, it might be too overpowered as it would help sustain said immunity.

On the other hand, you would really have to keep attacking things, otherwise the gold decay would remove your immunity.
All in all, if the Brittle Crown is turned out to be OP in this situation, the easy way to nerf the synergy would be to accelerate gold decay for each crown.

  • Shaped Glass: I mean... a glass cannon wouldn't be a glass cannon if it could easily get immunity, right? since the shaped glass likes to double things, let it double the threshold value for immunity as well.

  • Engineer's turrets: not sure if they should get the immunity as well, might be too overpowered.

End note:
I wanted this suggestion to be viable late game (i.e, worth swapping good equipment such as lightning strike, preon, or life fruit), while making sure the golden portal isn't a must-pick in every single run.
Feel free to add more to it.

Interesting Ideas but i can see the Aurelionite fight having some more meaning in the future like a unique item which might not be implimented yet or a character unlock for the future. then again it might have always just been intended as one of those hard secret bosses, wouldnt be the first game to have one
