To further clarify, the "Challenge" section of the Logbook menu.
I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but I certainly don't get why people are acting like this was unexpected...we've got the precedence in the original RoR game.
Yeah, and usually things like that tend to improve from precedent to precedent... oh well... whatever, I guess this is just such a hardcore kind of game, like a bullet hell game, for example. Then I wonder into what niche is it going to fall in the end.
Waiting for content for a game, yes it gets me hyped and I can't wait for these updates, however as a person who first off, doesn't have the time to actually spend hours playing this game to get good, and on a pc that doesn't like to run this game on smooth 60, and a mercenary main, its kinda disappointing.
Now challenge is fine, it doesn't hurt to give a reward to someone who has put the time and skill, but it isn't fun when you give a challenge that gets repetitive and boring so quickly. I felt sad and bored to see myself play the same trial over and over and learning how that specific trial works to get one ability for a character, just one, and i still haven't got it. The others are and seem quite easy, but some just seem plain odd and really mind straining pain for a player who doesn't dedicate themselves to this game. NO DMG as huntress, or the 1-second one shot time frame kill, or even Preon Accumulator death shot on the Imp-Overlord, these are not only RNG but requires a grind I've never wanted to experience.
This is one of my favourite games, but please tone down some challenges, consider the casuals who play this game for its monthly content and not lock it behind "expert" player challenges.
Also sorry for anyone who didn't like this comment, just wanted to say what I felt.
And as others have said, obnoxious requirements for cosmetics would be fine as that's just bragging rights. But these are actual content pieces, and some of them are significantly more difficult than whole character unlocks.
I honestly think they should have flipped the current unlocks around, obliterate on monsoon to unlock that characters alternate skill loadout, with obscene challenges for new skins.

For example, get a triple kill with a single mine to unlock the new one. If that seems too easy, just make the player do it 10 times.
