Do I have to buy RoR2 again to play on console
I bought Risk of Rain 2 for the PC and I'm wondering if I have to buy it again specifically for the console i want to play it on.

I believe so but uhh why console? PC elitism aside, console version is a little different than PC.

Yes. Honestly, I don't know of a game where this isn't the case.

@ittrix

thanks for the answer to my question, and to answer yours, yes i do prefer playing most games games on PC, including this one, but i was also looking into whether or not risk of rain 2 is couch play co-op compatible.

The PC version has an option for couch co-op I believe. It can only be accessed by dev commands because it's very beta, but it *can* be accessed. Some option called test_splitscreen or something?
If not, there's always mods.

Mods are better for now, since test_splitscreen is limited to Commando for everyone but Player 1.

I'm not sure if you can get mods working on a console.

The only one I know of is GOG did this recently with Witcher 3 but is the only one I know of that isn't free to play.
i own the switch version and its kinda crap because i though it was just going to be a graphics downgrade, but its soo bad you cant even slam/"punch" the alloy worship, greater wisps, and the wandering Vagrant as Mercenary. And playing in handheld mode is a death sentence in monsoon and rainstorm. the joy cons are basically garbage with this game

For me the benefit to console play would be xbox game share. All games are on my home console (bedroom where my kids play) and I can play at the same time wherever my account is signed in (living room). No need for couch co-op to enjoy coop games with my kids. There are definitely benefits... I play this on pc myself (half the time on my couch with a controller) but there is appeal for console for sure. Sounds like from what you guys said the console still needs some major work tho, it's a shame for people not fortunate enough to have a PC to game with

You can be logged into Steam accounts the same way or setup a "Steam Family Share" to play games wherever. And don't forget in home streaming depending on your home network can be just as seamless as playing on your PC. Steam isn't nearly as limited as you might think and has just as many options of playing away from your PC as the consoles.
