thanks for the answer to my question, and to answer yours, yes i do prefer playing most games games on PC, including this one, but i was also looking into whether or not risk of rain 2 is couch play co-op compatible.
If not, there's always mods.
I'm not sure if you can get mods working on a console.
The only one I know of is GOG did this recently with Witcher 3 but is the only one I know of that isn't free to play.
You can be logged into Steam accounts the same way or setup a "Steam Family Share" to play games wherever. And don't forget in home streaming depending on your home network can be just as seamless as playing on your PC. Steam isn't nearly as limited as you might think and has just as many options of playing away from your PC as the consoles.
