I need help getting the character rex

When you spawn in a blue drop pod go around to the back of it and open up the panel to grab the fuel array. This will use up your equipment slot and if you ever fall below 50% hp while holding it, you will explode so BE CAREFUL. Take the fuel array to Abyssal Depths (the red hell-like stage) on stage 5. Go up to the higher platforms in the centre to find Rex. Looks like a bush with robotic parts. Give the fuel array to Rex to unlock him. If you have any more questions just ask.

Ahhhh! I'm sorry, I had no context so I thought you were asking for the method for unlocking Rex. Well, I can't help you by joining a multiplayer game because my internet is to unstable for online games. You can make the game easier by playing on drizzle difficulty or using mods that make the game easier. One that I really like is Starting Items. It lets you choose which items you spawn with before the run even begins.

Here's a great tip: You don't have to carry the fuel equipment the whole time. Pick it up before you jump through the first portal then look for an equipment barrel to replace it, pick it back up before you jump through the portal again

Keep dropping it off and picking it back up before going through the portal
