Perhaps I just don't know of a new mechanic, but I keep getting my runs ended by this. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with how long I have been in a stage or where I am in the stage. I've entered a new stage and instantly started taking immense damage and died from it now, and it's kind of frustrating not knowing why the game seems to be randomly deciding to end my runs.

Perhaps it's also worth noting I've had probably half or over half of my runs in the new update end due to this all in different stages, at different times, and with me going at different rates through the stages relative to the game clock.

Killed by "the planet" is the default message for when the game can't find out what killed you. I had this happen once by dying to a blazing tick after the blazing elite had already died.

The random damage thing is something else. It's been in the game for a while now and i'm not sure if anyone knows what causes it.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply! I've had another run where I defeated Twiptwip as the engineer, and once he died I started taking very heavy damage like the other runs, except this time I was barely able to out-heal it. Noticeably I had no debuff icons active.I thought for a moment it may have been gasoline from my turrets dying, but if that was the case I would have been dead very early on in the fight. I only really took the heavy damage after Twiptwip was dead and was collecting the coins with my turrets alive and well.

if you made your games public, people would not makes claims like "you pirated it" because its true. if you pirated the game, you will get randomly killed by the game as punishment, now im not saying you did that but making ur games public helps rule that out.

Usually "The Planet" means that you died to either an environmental hazard, or you killed something that caused a DoT and the DoT killed you.

There is no anti-piracy measures actively in the game, so the heavy damage is not a symptom of having any form of pirated copy.

If you mouse over the little mouse icon next to Intornator's name, it actively says he does OWN risk of rain 2, regardless of his games being private or not.

another thing i know what can happen is that you go out of bounds of the map, like on stage 2 the desert themed map if you go outside the ribbons then you take damage very quickly.

Kinda forgot about this post, but I've had a bunch of runs since and have yet to encounter this problem again. Not sure what changed, and left as mysteriously as it came I suppose

I've never heard taking tons of damage from nothing, but the "killed by the planet" thing is just a replacement for the white box/question marks for when the game can't pinpoint an exact cause of death.
Annoyingly, it'll also say this if you win and kill a twisted scavenger in the Moment Whole hidden realm.
