Same here. Started last night, and even unlocked some characters. Today when i started the game, everything was gone, including achievements and unlocks.

Likewise. Played for several hours yesterday, log in today, no progress what so ever. :(

Save corruption is a known issue, and most likely a top priority for the devs. In the meantime, aside from making back-ups (or editing your save to get back what you lost) there isn't much to do I think.

MAybe a dumb idea, but also tried to look if your previously created profile haven't just logged off?
I had this once that the game started and had to select my already created profile.

It seems that the save xml save file was still in the folder, despite the game creating a new profile. So i just renamed my old save file with the name of the new one, and then deleted the new one.

Go to your Steam installation folder. Find the Userdata folder. Find the 632630 folder which belongs to Risk of Rain. Your save files are stored in there in .xml format. Now look at which one is the oldest ( the one you lost). Then find the newest one, copy it's name, and then rename your oldest save file with the name of your newest one. Basically you are fooling the game by making it beleive that your oldest save file is the newest save file, by giving it the new save file's name . Sorry, english is not my native language, and i don't know how to make it more clear that that. Hope it helps you! The important thing to keep in mind here is that your progress is never lost, the save files are still there. So wether you change the name of the file, or simply copy ALL of the contents from your all save file into the new one will produce the same result, as long as you make sure to delete the newest save after you did so. Also, it doesen't hurt to make a save backup whenever you are done playing untill they fix the issue.
