I have yet to see anything up the DPS on a scale even close to the naturally increasing difficulty scale?
If the challenge is surviving boredom in a game that requires 50,000 bullets to kill a regular mob, I'll stay non gud if it's all the same (making mobs taking millions of shots to kill != skill challenge)
have you played the game for more than 10 minutes?
Honestly, the player's DPS scales too well. Eventually you'll have such high DPS you instantly kill bosses the moment they spawn, and it becomes a game of 'spam everywhere without a care but don't get hit by that blazing titan'
yeah that's what I'm after - in the first game too. Had a half dozen playthroughs on ror1 without seeing anything powerful or even close to - and so far finding the same in ror2. Opening all chests, etc. Just wanted to check if that's the core gameplay or if you can actually get some fun combos a la binding of isaac.
Early= Basics and Getting to Know your Characters' Cooldowns
Mid= Experiencing some power and speed with increased mob difficulty
Late= Somewhat Chaotic with enough items to make you feel like a god, with chunky elites
For example, the Sticky Bomb item gives all your hits a 5% chance to drop a bomb that does 250% damage. Having five of these items (which isn't unfeasible since it's a Common one) means you'll have a 15% chance to drop a bomb that does a whopping 1250% damage.
Unlike Isaac where most items contribute to DPS in some way, Risk of Rain has a lot of purely defensive and mobility-boosting items. If the game tosses you a lot of these and no offensive items, your run can slow to a crawl. Try to make the best of a bad situation or die and try again.
Also as others are saying, you're not gonna see crazy stuff in a 10 minute run.
