57 leaf clover class/build/strategy tips?
I've been having some issues with this one, trying to balance out building up enough items with doing the stages quickly.

I'm already aware that the hidden realm counts and that mobility items help to quickly locate portals but I still end up taking lethal fire damage somewhere along the line. I have a decent amount of unlocks but none of the super OP stuff yet.

Any tips on class, general build and strategy would be appreciated.

Engineer is probably the easiest class to do it with, but playing Huntress allows you to reliably reach all the Newt Altars to boost your level count. If you know where they are and have the lunar coins, that might be a faster option. Note that you should be able to find a Newt Altar on nearly every single level, at least 90% of the time.

If you ever come across a sticky bomb printer after level 1, it should be GG. A stack of about 20 sticky bombs is enough to kill everything you should encounter in 20 levels, although 39 is the optimal count.

I did it on Huntress, MUL-T and Engineer.

MUL-T was the easiest by far. If you can get some Harvester Scythes and some glasses, he becomes extremely tanky and every other item works for him.

Huntress is the toughest, she is squishy and she doesn't like all items. I couldn't have done it without the crit and attack speed stuff unlocked (Berserker pauldrons, Predatory instincts, harvester's scythe).

Engineer is easy-ish if the RNG is on your side. You need 1 fungus asap, and more as time goes on. You also need good damage for your turrets and that's where the RNG will make or break you. Half of my good engineer runs ended vs overloading magma worms. Of particular note, if it's not the boss and your dps is not amazing, stay the hell away from it. I got 2 runs trashed because I rushed to the portal and it killed me as I was switching levels x_x

Also, playing with friends is highly recommended and if you just want to "relax", try the shared items mod with friends:

Yeah, I tried Engi and Mul-T. I've been mostly getting "okay" builds. I'll keep at it.

I did this on Mercenary of all things on Drizzle.
My method? Will-o-The-Wisps. A lot of them. I had found a 3D Printer on the second stage with them, and had fairly good RNG with green loot. Whenever I killed anything, that's where most of my DPS came from, and even though Merc gets critique for being pretty shoddy late game, I still got up to round 26 before dying to 3 Overload Worms spawning close to my spawn location.

Drizzle, any character (only Mercenary can have some issues), roll your head on the keyboard, reach 40 stages without really trying by when the game glitches out so hard you no longer get spawns (teleporter bosses already stop spawning randomly around stage 20) and have to kill yourself by going out of bounds.

A huge stack of wisps kills everything, but you are basically relying on a lucky green printer. Also it doesn't work that well VERY late into the game when only bosses spawn. Sticky bombs only require a white printer and kill everything forever.

isnt there a limit to the stack of most items?

No. Most items are unlimited. Some have a logical limit like crit chance or chance on hit not going over 100%. That's why 39 stickies is ideal, it hits 100% chance at 39, the damage keeps increasing beyond that though so more is still better.

Yeah primordial cube + wisps is pretty nice. I had a decent amount of crits and speed on my last build but...fire. Also, I may have gotten a little greedy with mountain shrine and summoning a bejillion green wisps on stage 11 or 12.
engineer with N'kuhana's Opinion and a bunch of busting fungus now you can just drop your turrets down with your bubble shield while you go get a coffee or something. thats how i managed it i also got a few shaped glass so nothing really lived long

It's a thread about unlocking it, not how to use it.
