Controller Support Issues
I’m having issues with the right trigger not being recognized in this game. I have confirmed there is nothing wrong with the controller in other games. When I try to remap using the right trigger, the game doesn’t recognize it in the 5 second window. But will recognize it in menu. Is anyone else having this issue or is there a fix I’m not aware of?

This could be a million things and without knowing more about your controller all the advice I can give is try a reboot (has helped me) and if your controller can connect both wired and wirelessly, don't do both at once.

I use a wireless xbox one controller when I play this game and I have experienced no problems. But you have given us next to no context like even telling us what controller you're using, if it's wired or not, etc.

Wireless Xbox elite controller. I use this controller in every other game and have no issues.

When I try to use it in RoR2 it will often just not work in game. Oddly it will work in the menu system. Buttons will work in the settings menu. But when I start a round, buttons won't work. I often have to restart my game several times to get it to work. It's extremely annoying and only happens in this game.
Edited to accommodate those who appreciate unhelpful comments.

For anyone stumbling across this later, the issue is in the game's User Profile XML file.
Create a new profile in the game's menus (ensure no controllers/HOTAS/etc are plugged in). Name it "uncorrupt"
Go to your steam folder and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\##YourProfile##\632360\remote\UserProfiles.
Make a backup of both profile files, then open the originals in notepad.
In your player profile, replace everything between "joystickMap" and "<name>ProfileName</name>" with the same section of text copied from the untouched "uncorrupt" profile. Use Ctrl+F to search for the tags, and make sure you find the very first instance of "joystickMap", as there are multiple.
That should fix it.

You might have to do this with some regularity.

I think it has something to do with ror2/xinput picking up an axis from another peripheral somehow and using that instead of the intended controller's trigger or control-stick axis. Doesn't seem to happen with buttons.

Shaming someone who was telling op to give more context by framing them to just be saying "didn't happen to me tho" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ behavior. That wasn't the attitude he was portraying or the context of what was said. I'm letting the 4-year-old necro slide because of the good info, but that was a BS jab.
