That's where i got my ass handed to me, definitely stops being easy at that point, but until then it was an absolute joke.
Plus he's (in my opinion) one of the worst characters to deal with Magma/Overloading Worms (yes even worse than the melee bound Mercenary.) Unless the Worms pathfinding AI glitches out and just causes it to spin in circles, your turrets will either be too far to hit it, or close enough to be BTFO'd by it. Leaving you with just his bouncing grenades to deal with them. Not to mention all the times where the turret AI just outright ceases to function and they just sit there not firing.
This, absolutely.
He also has downsides. No mobility makes him even more reliant on items, as well as making getting out of tough situations difficult. Combine this with his lack of any on-demand damage (all his abilities have charge, delays, casting time, projectile speed, arming time, etc, combined with a complete lack of cc without items) and he quickly gets shut down if enemies get in his face. He strongly rewards setting defenses and reacting quickly if they're taken down, which is a unique style of gameplay. I don't play engi often, but I think he's fine, and people enjoy him, which is good enough for me.
He relies too much on his turrets which tend to get one shotted in end game and makes the meme of fungus useless unless you have Opinions, no mobility so AoEs that are ground target still hit him through his shield, lackluster mines, mediocre M1.
In short, he is strong but it's all thanks to how the sentries work with the item pool and it's balanced around everything else that the Engineer has. You'll come to realise how Commando and even Mercenary have higher chance of survival past 90 minutes on Monsoon than Engi.
Solo play he's fine though.
if he cant get those hes dead.
