Can't group up with my friend for online multiplayer

If my friend or myself try to invite each other to the game nothing happens. We have both tried to invite through the game, through steam, right clicking name and joining the other person, and when the clipboard code is used it simply blacks out all the options except for invite friends. Does anyone know how to get this working?

Found that if they are in a match already, you can't invite them.

I've had the same issue, I managed to get around it by joining them from desktop, it'll ask you about launching with custom settings, say yes and it'll join their lobby

i had this issue and so did my friends
We fixed it by uninstalling a few times and it seems to work 100%

We had the same issue, for us running the verify game files in steam fixes it every time. It seems to be caused be some bug because it comes back periodically. Just repair each you are unable to join.

Me and a mate same thing, tried re-install/verify - also always seems to find missing workshop file every time I verify...

weird. Will try that. I just installed for the first time, so its seems silly it would need to verify. First thing I did was invite the other steam account. Tried inviting from the other end too. Tried inviting with and without being in a game. Both ends just kept sending a message over chat and that was it.

I mean, seems obvious its a bug. its happening pretty often for many people, even though some have no issue.

Ok, well I asked in discord, ANNNNDD the solution was literally to restart ur PC. and hilariously, it 100% worked.

So a Brief list of things that have been tried that have not worked. Port Forwarding, Joining from desktop, Updating drivers, Restarting the PC, Uninstalling and reinstalling the game twice, Joining from inside the game, Joining from clipboard, Validating game files, and Waiving incense and chanting to appease the machine spirit (because ♥♥♥♥ it nothing else worked)

i was able to play with a friend this time. It was not working the first day. I have since restarted the PC. He was already in game (multiplayer character select screen) and I joined from not having the game launched yet on my side. the option was there over his name in Friends & chat this time. previous time I tried this the option was not there.

Was having this issue myself and figured it out. Not sure how much this will help anyone else but will share anyway. I'm normally behind a "weird" setup (it's called a double-NAT - I connect to a router, which is connected to another router, which is connected to the Internet). Once I connected to the main access point rather than the secondary one, I was able to invite my friend and play.

This might not be something on the end-user side at all, you know, if it randomly starts and stop working with a bazillion of different methods.

A friend and me couldn't play together at all yesterday, and this morning either. At some point it started working one way (I could join him in a lobby if he hosted, he couldn't join me if I hosted). I wouldn't be surprised if later the opposite was true. And I could only join by starting the game using an invite, while he couldn't.

It's probably the lobby system itself that's a bit flakky, or fault intolerant, or some weird issues, or a combination of all three. That's EA (I mean, early access haha) for you.

Verified files, restarted game, restarted steam, reinstalled....still can't join friends.

A friend and I played for hours last night. Today, nothing is able to connect. We've tried restarting, verifying files, uninstalling/reinstalling, invite from desktop.. basically everything we've heard work. The problem doesn't appear to be on our side. It's really frustrating we've spent $40 on a game we can't play together when the entire point of getting this game was playing together. A little more attention from the developers on this issue would be fantastic.

After trying a few additional things I have managed to get it to work if someone invites me while i am on desktop and they are in game. This only works if one specific friend invites me (the one i gave my free copy to I doubt this has anything to do with it but still) , if one of the others invites me this does not work at all. Otherwise i am still unable to join a game unless they are online and playing with the current group.
