the gameplay loop is boring
-spawn on map
-kill stuff while finding teleporter
-activate teleporter
-kill stuff
-go to next level and repeat

there needs to be more stuff to do or some other kind of gameplay element for me to engage in. why not story mode or mode where I can build structures like survival

It's not a game for you. What you ask will never be in the game, because this game is basically a rogue-like: the structure of this kind of games is literally what you describe as boring.

Play with different characters, up the difficulty, chase specific challenges, impose self challenges, play with some pals, experiment with absolutely broken set-ups, etc.
The game is repetitive, but it's not like there's nothing to do but advance through stages.

Aside from that, if none of this entertains you it's more of a 'not your kind of game' issue (which is 100% fine; not for everyone) than a 'bad game' issue, because a loot of people here really love it (which, not coincidentally at all, is 100% fine).

In the first Risk of Rain, you need to beat a few levels and then you can
go to the last stage and beat the boss... or continue to loop.

For now, we only got the loop but the game is probably going
to get an end someday... until now, Ittrix had a few interesting ideas.
I would also add there is mods if you want to change the game a little.

You can also pause it for a while until there is more updates.

Based on the roadmap the devs have provided, it looks like the ending will be added as part of the game's full release next spring.

I hope hoppo makes it more difficult to beat the story in RoR2 than it is in RoR1

RoR1 could be rushed through with good rng and be beaten in like 20 minutes.

Otherwise, yeah RoR2 just isn't the game for you I guess.

You should look for a different game, buddy.

I mean, most video games suffer from a loop I could point out, just name a game lol. Every game is repetitive, it’s just a matter of if it’s something you’re into, and it seems Risk if Rain 2 is something you’re not into.

Honestly, I tried a 'demo' because I thought I would hate it. I was right.... I hated it, not because of a the game, because it was SP locked. I deleted it. Then one evening I decided to give it another go, but I wanted to do it legit, so I supported the devs and purchased it.

One of the best game purchase to date. It's one of my top played games on steam, and I got a few games.

You missed: Find awesome things that make killing stuff fun.
But yeah - if you don't like the loop refund as soon as you can.

I like it that way.
