Easy too easy, Normal a bit too hard?
Done a few runs and have sailed through on easy to stage 7 twice whilst reaching the hardest difficulty setting without really breaking a sweat. It was nice to get a feel for the game, unlocking a new character and sampling some of the items along with the locations. However, I was only truly tested when I ultimately died after an hour and a half on both runs.

I then tried a couple of normal runs and it's an appropriate difficulty I want to play with but I seem to be swarmed early on and end up dying far too quickly. I don't know if I simply need more practice on normal but there does seem to be a very big and generous gap between easy and normal. I don't really want to play on easy to progress but I fear I may get nowhere playing on normal.

Is it all down to long-term practice or is there some ideal tactics to use on the harder settings?

The differences between the difficulties are how quickly they get harder, so how quickly you gather items changes earlygame since the economy is bad.
On a difficulty like drizzle you can collect every item on the map, but on something like monsoon I tend to grab two items and R U N.

Drizzle gets 15 minutes a stage, rainstorm like... 8 or 9-ish and monsoon 5 as the general rules of thumbs. Generally give yourself 2 minutes or so to do the teleport boss and loot some with the cash after.

People generally do this because the teleporter event forces the game to hand you money, and it's generally stingy early on. Once the economy is fixed you can go back to collecting everything ASAP, which doesn't quite start on stage 4 but it's where the good loot is.

Oh, and I almost forgot. In drizzle you have armor and regen and can shrug off small damage... but in rainstorm and monsoon it adds up. Be sure to focus down lesser wisps, because if they're at a distance they *will* hit you.

Man you should've played the first game where Drizzle is just as hard as Monsoon is in this game.
