RUSTED KEY ACTUALLY BEST ITEM
okay, so listen. i know we all joke about the rusty key, because you know, it's a big meme item. who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about the box, you know? but, i actually found out something on the wiki. take a look at this:

"A hidden cache containing an item will appear in a random location in each stage. Increases rarity of the item per stack."

now, imagine if you will, the next time you see a "stupid" 3d key printer on a loop or something, you give like 10 items...

1. it won't affect your red or green items, of course
2. you should have plenty of whites by this time, just pray for rng

so, you open up the box the next level. lets consider that 10 glasses give you 100% crits. imagine what 10 keys will give you. 100% red items? perhaps. could be the hidden secret to risk of rain because no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumbass in a billion years would have more than like 2 keys on him.

just consider it next time you see it next to a couple of crowbars or something.

the rarity increases much slower than that. I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but it is about 20 keys where you start regularly getting greens out of it, and a lot of people would rather have has 20 of pretty much anything else rather than scouring the landscape for a tiny box that frequently blends in to the background for a decent chance at a green.

The last update actually made the lockbox slightly bigger than a regular chest if you happen to have at least one key equipped. It's a lot harder to miss now.

It's way less than 20 to get greens out regularly. You're making it worse than it is, really.

The wiki also has a table for the odds of getting either of the 3 rarity at X keys.

I haven't actually played with keys much, so I was just reiterating what I recalled from previous discussions. I haven't actually came across a key chest since the size was changed, so I didn't know how drastic the change was. Apologies for spreading inaccurate information.

It used to be 36 keys for an almost guarenteed red. I dont know if it's been changed

It's not just bigger, it's slightly shiny now. It used to be a pretty flat dark grey that could blend in easily, now it's easier to notice.

As for the usefulness of the item, it might be worth it on long runs but on obliteration runs on monsoon, getting one feels bad.

Unless going for like 100+ stages, that's just a free chest nothing else, look chance table on wiki, if it increased chance for legendary for like 2% per key or better and didn't have a stupid stacking mechanic like teddys where 100% is never possible then maybe. Currently think either never got a legendary out of them or just one and having like 80 hours.

check the wiki again for the proper key math.

Just checked your profile out of curiosity from your name. You better not play another hour of Risk of Rain 2. lmao.

Had once 12 keys and every second stage or so gave me a red.
It's neat.

More stupid than having a 100% chance of blocking damage? :lunar2019deadpanpig:
