If i didnt I would've died every time, all of my items were just bad, the positioning of the teleporter. the fact that I was getting bombarded by elite vultures, elite beetle guards, wisps, imps, clay templars around every corner. Doesnt help that the dunestriders were all grouped up so and every time i'd get them low as a group they'd rapidly heal off of all of the elites around them and each other so they'd be right back to around half hp. Again though I'm sure i wouldve had a much easier time if i had gotten better items and had actually gotten the vision of heresy like i had planned to (sadly it never showed up) I'll list my items as well so you get a better idea of the bad run
If your raw damage is lesser, it does do 10% of the enemies' max HP over 10 seconds. Should've taken less than 50 seconds to burn them down if it were just poison damage alone.
bandolier, 4 razorwire, 2 energy drinks, war banner, whip, tough meat, 2 kjaro bands, 2 beetles, shaped glass, 2 uke's, war horn, tri-tip dagger, will-o-wisp, tougher times, crowbar, 2 armor piercing rounds, topaz brooch, 2 medkits, personal shield generator, harvesters scythe, gasoline, focus crystal, lepton daisy, runalds band, fuel cell, stealth war kit, soldier syringe, and a rose buckler. For my equipment since the run was so bad I needed mobility so i could run and regen so i went with the dragon egg
Most people take some extra time on stage four since there's good items there, too.
You may wanna invest in some lunar items. There's a lot of absolutely broken stuff that you can do with them if you wanna absolutely cheese things, but a single corpsebloom or shaped glass can really change up a run without entering cheese city.
Shaped glass is especially good for people who tend to lag behind a bit, since it alleviates a lot of the worry of being out-scaled. You do have to stay on your toes, though.
Plus, the green and red items you can trade in for cauldron swaps can be pretty handy from time to time.
I did have some lunars, I had 2 transcendence beetles and a shaped glass. The beetles were the only thing that kept me in the run since the regen is so strong if you can manage to kite well enough, which is why i went with the egg
Edit: I wanted to get the visions of heresy and tried to get it since stage 2 and every stage after that but I got unlucky and it was never there. Also every green and red item in there was basically useless and i was scared of getting rid of my ukes
You did mention you were a bit behind on the stages, though. How long was it taking you to clear them?
