Frost Relic
So, in my opinion, the item is... meh. The damage is acceptable, and I can understand the range restriction (as if it had high damage and high range, that would be kinda nuts), however, there are two aspects that bother me about the item.

1. Slowdown. Why does this item slow you down when it is active? Does it even slow you down? It sure as hell feels like it. So, why does this red item, a very rare item, which isn't overpowered as it is, have a DOWNSIDE to it, besides the fact that its close-range. This isn't a lunar item we're talking about, this is supposed to be an item that solely gives a benefit (albeit a situational one) to your run (I don't know of any other item that isn't a lunar item that actively has a downside attached to it).

2. A 2D area in a 3D space. While this isn't as major of an issue as the first, it does feel very out-of-place to have a 2D area-of-effect in the NEW, IMPROVED, 3D Risk of Rain 2 (Risk of Rain was so good there IS a Risk of Rain 2). I have this same issue with several other effects in the game (Huntress fourth skill is a big one), but I think the item's usability would be improved if the effect was a 3D area-of-effect, rather than 2D. Hell, we already have an item that does the same thing, basically: Hellfire Tincture, which uses a 3D area-of-effect perfectly well. The fact that this item doesn't use the 3D element very well brings into question future items, namely if Hopoo implements the Chargefield Generator of the first game into Risk of Rain 2. Will it also be 2D like Frost Relic, which it shares many similarities to? Will it be 3D? If so, why is Frost Relic not 3D? IDK.

It doesn't slow you down, although it might feel like that since it pans the camera out, making you appear smaller. While I agree the 2D vs 3D aspect is weird, if it were 3D, it might get in the way of your vision more than it already does. And most enemies stay on the ground anyways.

I think the point of Frost Relic is more to proc on-hit effect on enemies swarming you so you can deal with more important targets. At least, that's how it's helped me so far. It's actually really good in that sense. Teleporter bosses late-game can be extremely dangerous, so you want to focus on them and not all the cannon fodder around you. Frost Relic helps in that regard since it triggers on-hit effects, essentially shredding enemies that get close so you don't have to worry about them as much.

Doesnt slow you down, it zooms out the cam.
It is a 3d area, it will hit enemies in the air above you from ground level.
Is a lot of extra hits procing things, super great for Mercenary.

Good to know there isn't slowdown. However, I still feel it would work being 3D, with Hellfire Tincture being the best example I can think of. Actually, Hellfire Tincture does the 3D AoE so well, it becomes very easy to lose track of whether its on or not (the main indicator being your character glowing bright blue), so I still believe that Frost Relic could stand to be 3D. And I would definitely agree that it does well at clearing out mooks in the late game. I just think 3D would be an interesting quality-of-life change.

Really? I don't think I've ever seen it hit enemies above or below me. Would help if there was a better indicator, but nice to know that it works at the very least.
