Stone Titan Laser
Playing as huntress solo how am I supposed to deal with this? He can shoot it behind him and it melts my health instantly so I can't dodge it. Am I supposed to just hide behind ♥♥♥♥?

For now, yes. I really hope they add some way to deal with it in the future.

The easy solution would be to fix the bug (?) where he can fire it behind him through his own body or give it a slight delay so you can at least sprint out of the way
Salyz May 6, 2019 @ 2:03am
But you can always just hide behind cover, right?
Beaumont May 6, 2019 @ 2:04am
I main huntress. Stone golems are one of the easiest bosses. Beetles being the easiest.
Stone golems dont die when they rotate their heads like owls...they are stone.

I would rate the Stone Titan as the 2nd worst boss, tied with Wandering Vagrant behind Magma/Overloading Worm (I hate the Worm a lot). The auto-track is one of the most frustrating attacks in the game if it catches you unaware, and locking you behind cover for any length of time is dangerous in and of itself.

And yeah, you just have to hide behind something or otherwise break line of sight with its face. It firing through itself isn't a bug, either.

There is no such thing as "I main huntress" Please stop profiling yourself like this. It does not even make any sense, this is not an RPG where you create some twinks and then have a main class xD
you're just bragging, how about giving him tips instead of performing here like an e-sports pro

you can literally just *walk* in a circle around him. if the laser never locks onto you, it doesnt hit. you dont need any bonus movement speed to do it.

also he wont even fire the laser if you stay on top of him.

You can mentally substitute "main" for "usually play" if that somehow makes you feel better.

The laser can be dodged in four ways:
  • Stay within melee range the whole fight, and titan will never even try to fire the laser.
  • Stay within close range the whole fight, and you can sprint a circle around the titan the moment you see the tracking beam to avoid getting hit.
  • Stay close to cover. As Huntress that means possibly giving up on using Strafe and only sticking to potshots with Glaive and Arrow Rain. That's okay because Strafe's DPS is absolute dogturd and you don't lose much.
  • Stay very, very far away where the laser doesn't do damage anymore and titan probably won't try to fire it anyway. With Huntress that puts you don't to just using Arrow Rain, not the best of options.

If you get a decent amount of movespeed you can run close to them and they won't be able to track you. I think its possible with none but its easier with more.

Be careful if you try this though, because if they start hitting you usually means you can't dodge any damage ticks (like even if you teleport through then they'll indta track). So I'd only recommend this with several movespeed items or if you can't make it to a nearby wall. Or if you have frost relic and your damage otherwise sucks (mention this cause it happened in a previous run of mine).

Also wouldn't recommend vs blazing stone titans or titans near edges. I've randomly died just by walking near both. Said crushed on the titans near ledges, so pretty sure it's meant to happen.

Yes hiding behind cover is the intended means of avoidance. However it can technically also be avoided if you are fast enough. And it is really irrelevant who you are playing (excluding bubbleneer) regarding the lasers as you still need cover or you need to be very fast. Do note however that once the damage part of the laser actually gets a lock on you it won't let go.

They have one: cover.

Not really. There is still usually cover and getting to it is almost never a problem as Huntress or Mercenary.

Well honestly they are my favorite because they present an actual serious threat. I actually hate the beetle queens because they are normally a non-threat. I do however hate the Overloading worm because I find myself dying even if the blue particles didn't come in contact with me. Just in general with Overloading worm I will take damage without seeing what exactly did it in contrast to the magma worm where I always do see the lava and it is my fault entirely if I get hit.

I must be the only person alive who's never had trouble with overloading worms. The only thing I can't stand is the screen-darkening effect, and that's a shared problem with overlords.

As for titans, I agree that they shouldn't be able to fire through the back of their head. Personally, I'm not a fan of enemies that force the player to take cover, especially in a mobility-oriented game like this. It seriously disrupts the flow unless you're playing engineer.
Tyrannus May 6, 2019 @ 7:40am
You can actually outpace the laser by running a tight circle around his feet with a couple of mobility items to make it easier and more consistent. The farther away you are from the laser, the slower the degree per second traverse speed of his laser is required to be. Common sense.
Netsa May 6, 2019 @ 7:45am
Except circling his feet is just as dangerous as being behind cover. It locks you to a specific spot on the map. I don't know why that keeps getting repeated like some kind of easy-mode quick-fix.

You make it sound like the lasers have a casting duration of a century or two. Actually why not complain about that instead? I can see why maybe one would want the already plenty deadly lasers to have a bit of a shorter duration if the only cover they could get to is more than unfavorable against everything else on screen. I don't ever see the beams losing their lock on potential but I think giving the beams a bit of a shorter duration so you aren't stuck behind cover too long is a good solution as getting caught in it at all is still extremely deadly as the game has gone on for awhile. And yeah now that I think about it it can be pretty bad news to be stuck sitting behind cover too long in some spots.
