It's definitely not a simple thing to enjoy at first. A lot of complex polyrhythms aren't. But I speak with certainty when I say that it's very unlikely to go away with the additional confusion it adds to the track — Perfect for a game where you're lost and confused on a hostile planet. Contrasting the natural beauty with the harsh reality of the situation.
In response to the OP, c'mon, that's no way to appreciate music... Polyrhythms are such a common and basic thing in a lot of music, even if you don't realise it, it's not "artsy" or "pretentious". There's logic and theory behind it. I understand you don't like it, but nothing is stopping you from learning to like it except for yourself. I sincerely hope you're more willing to open your mind to things like this in the future. It can open up a world of interesting and unique music to you.
Why doesn't matter. Opinions don't matter. Offence doesn't matter.
We all hear through the same two ears, there's nothing you're hearing that i'm not. Either way, it's a video game, not some kind of simoneo-blucharidadia-blonk art gallery. There's no logic in a bad sound playing without rhythm. Clearly the average 'plebian' like me and the two guys that came before me, don't hear it no matter which angle we look from, so there's no point in it being there. It's a flaw.
- If you think there's something wrong with the music, you should probably take it out with the composer, there's plenty of ways to contact him. He's best placed to help you.
- Only one person agreed with you in this thread so far.
- The fact that the song sounds exactly the same in game and in the video uploaded by the composer would seem to indicate that whatever you hear that is so wrong, has been put there on purpose.
- The picture has a context, it's your opening post and Ashdeer's reply. Just because there's no actual text doesn't mean I can't guess what you were trying to convey with it.
Ignoring the fact that there's a whole range of hearing impairments that can legit change the way you hear things, and ignoring the fact that bothering you may have been the goal of that tidbit in the song, what bothers you in a song is subjective.
That's why not everyone like and listen to the same genre of music, that's why even among fans of the same genre and artist, you have differences in how much people like a specific track.
There's nothing wrong with that. Internet doesn't suddenly make respect obsolete.
The rest is just woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooords.

Do you see why that argument doesn't work now? It's something completely subjective. I was trying to remain civil and explain how art works, but clearly you're not interested. I hope that every time you hear this song, the polyrhythm sticks out for you like a sore thumb and ruins all your enjoyment, because you clearly don't deserve to like it if you're going to act like this. I'm sorry you can't expand your musical palette and that you choose to be upset over something so interesting, and yet something that still is ultimately incredibly trivial.
Rhadamante, I want to thank you for your willingness to learn about this stuff. You seem like a cool and chill individual. You had no reason to keep dealing with this person (and you don't deserve to have to) but I appreciate that you at least tried. My offer still extends to you, but I'm dropping out of this thread now. Hopefully other people will come in here and come out with more knowledge than they entered with, and without the any of bitterness that the OP is trying to fill the topic with.
+ Strawman
+ Marriage proposal.
10/10 would trigger again.
Is this what you're talking about? (around 8:03)

The synth flute is playing triplet arpeggios against a duple pulse layer.
Or maybe you're referring to this "intense" passage? (around 9:23)

Here, there are some triplets and dotted rhythms in the bass (maybe with some rubato), and a few off-beat accents in the rhythm kit, but nothing crazy weird as far as rhythms are concerned. If there are more complicated polyrhythms, maybe I missed them.
If you want to acquire a taste for simple polyrhythms and metrical dissonance in general, a good place to start would be with Brahms or Schumann.
reminds me of this.
