The Commando's alternate "R" skill
So with the release of the update that adds the ability to earn new skills and interchange them with the default ones my friends and I have been trying to unlock the commando's alternate ultimate ability. The challenge is "Using the commando, get to stage 20 without using lunar items" or something along those lines. We're having trouble completing it. So can anyone who does have it tell me, what it does, if it's worth it, or at least some tips to help us unlock it.

The alternate R skill is a hand grenade. You can hold up to two at a time (and they have a pretty short recharge). The grenades AoE damage is alright (175%) and it does 4x damage to anyone at the center of the explosion. It's a pretty hard skill to use, and on paper doesn't look amazing, but i've found that it's way better in practice (easily one of my new favorite skills). My main tip for unlocking it is to use the commandos alternate right click skill, the Phase Blast. It scales extremely well into late game and with can wipe packs fast with a few backup mags. As for items in general, I found prioritizing proc based items was the way to go. Things like Ukulele and Sentient Meak Hook make up for not being able to get high single target damage from Shaped Glass. Another tip would be if you get Sirens Call as your 4th stage, go ahead and kill Alloy Worship Unit for a free red item, but as often as you can after that use the "Dream" pillars in the lunar shop to go to the hell level from there on out. You don't want to go to Sirens Call again (unless you lucked into a god run) to avoid accidentally spawning Alloy again and risking fighting some huge time wasting health bar.

Yeah. Well, to be honest, don't expect anything breathtaking from any of these new skills. They are just that: alternate skills that you might like or not. Some of them are even pretty debatable... There was a huge amount of people who completed the challenges, getting them and said that it was not really worth it. It's just that you might not have time in your life for that actually pretty mediocre-designed and boring challenges, or PC hardware that allows to unlock some of them that require not a single glitch into your gameplay.

But, as for me, I like the new Commandos (and most of the other) skills. Grenades (his alt R) are fun, the new M2 is fun.

Just in case if you are an adult with something else going on in your life than just this game, or have other reasons why would you not rather spend hours churning through boredom and frustration to change a value of a byte, this might help you:

Short answer : It's a grenade. it explodes.

Somewhat longer answer : its a frag grenade that does pretty good damage if you aim it right, and is completely useless if you don't. Oh, and you have 2 of them.
