The regular magma worm is just an overloading worm that isn't a threat. Its just there. If you walk in a straight line it can't damage you. And if you just stop moving so it can finally catch up to you, it doesn't even really damage you.
That's why the situation is always you dying to a ninja elder lemurian or something. Because the worm can't kill you. Its crap. Its just there to take your focus, and it does that by moving around erratically so its hard to hit and you have to go chase it down to finish it off.
Basically, it current design is just a bait to make you not pay attention to actual threats. But you have to take the bait, because if you don't focus it down it just randomly runs to the other side of the map and you end up spending an extra couple minutes killing it.
I don't think imp overlords fit into the same category. They're wonky to aggro in the first place. I don't know why they don't just start aggrod on you. But once you aggro them they actually attack you and they're threatening enough that if you walk around in circles with your eyes closed they might actually kill you. I think the only change they really need is making them aggro you at the start. Worms need far more help.
