Rex got absolutely gutted due to the regen nerf. I thought he was garbage before, even with his """"insane"""" dps, but that was only possible because of passive health regen giving you room for error. Now that that's gone, Rex can't do that anymore, and now there's no reason to play Rex anymore.
I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who mains Rex.
as soon as possible. (1 is enough)
2) Healing chests should be your priority target on what to invest money instead of rushing for crit or other crap builds for early game (Fungus amazing for early game and Medkits as you noticed for main build). His damage is huge from Seed Barrage so you don't need to rush for ONLY damage items in first 10 maps (Backup magazines is also DPS item so its optional IMO, never relied on it and never failed without it)
3) From green always focus on Old War Stealthkit and at least 1 Hopoo Feather/ Wax Quail to combine with DIRECTIVE: Disperse
4) Primordial Cube is your best friend.
Now to other items that are going very well on him too:
Gasoline & Will-o'-the-wisp;
Rejuvenation Rack;
Bandolier - 1 is enough to spam your ultimate for more effective healing (you can even throw ultimate in same mob as many times as you want to gain stacks of healing);
Lepton Daisy - new very friendly item to this survivor;
57 Leaf Clover - to make Old War Stealthkit even more effective and trigger the effect more often
Aegis - the item shines together with Corpsebloom, Foreign Fruit/Gnarled Woodsprite & Medkits
H3AD-5T v2 & Hardlight Afterburner - combine those items with DIRECTIVE: Disperse to make your mobility way more effective
Effigy of Grief - can't recommend it at all, but this one is just my personal fun choise to combine with Tangling Growth
Lens-Maker's Glasses + Harvester's Scythe w/o Corpsebloom is a stable build for anyone if to talk about other side of healing but such method is uninteractive and makes runs so boring very fast.
Other notifications:
-> Seed Barrage resets the attack cooldown of DIRECTIVE: Inject at right timing when the third projectile fires out.
-> You can shoot Tangling Growth in flying units to catch everything in that air AOE spot instead of shooting it in ground or wall.
-> DIRECTIVE: Disperse is a mixture of escape & mobility as i said before, stun against any charging mobs, aggressive pushback to the walls to kill wisps or jellies. Using this skill on Wagrants homing Orb Bomb or any exploding barrel makes it disappear
-> When you using DIRECTIVE: Disperse right in mobs that are under the negative effect of Tangling Growth, pushback is way more powerfull. With such effect you can even push Dunestrider (I don't know is it a bug or intended to be like that).
