DMC1 mission structure
Anyone else kinda wish the first game wasn't broken up into missions? Like, is there a mod that can do away with that sort of thing? 2 jumps locations constantly, so it's justified there, and with 3 you can at least replay individual game chunks, so I'm less opposed to it there too, even though the map is honestly put together in a way that so far I feel like it could also do away with such a structure.
But 1? Far as I can tell, you can't go back to previous missions, and therefore get any secret missions you may have missed. It just ends up feeling like it exists to tell you you took forever to complete that chunk of the game and throw you back really far when you run out of yellow orbs.

Is it feasible for the game to be modded to make the upgrade statues your true death checkpoint/save points and to get rid of the mission start and end screens? Seriously it gives me anxiety and makes it really hard to enjoy the game whenever I take ten minutes to achieve what I was told was my objective for the mission only for it to keep going and going... If it wasn't for that, I think I would honestly really like the game.
Once I'm better at the game I'd probably find the mission structure to be a nice way of breaking things up, but right now I just want to explore this castle without the game breathing down my neck.

As for DMC1, DDMK mod has the Mission Select feature but quite buggy since it has progression problems. I was trying to unlock the Enemy Files with that method at least but the game goes stuck.

Also I agree with you, DMC1 does not have much quality of life mechanics compared to the later games and treats like an arcade game that is when you don't have a coin to continue (Yellow Orb), game over so load your last save file. Also we can only use 10 save slots when there's 20+ missions if you want to make separate saves per mission.

Oh? While a mission select option would be nice, I suppose, I would honestly prefer it to be kinda like... a really huge zelda dungeon with a heavy focus on combat and weapons? Like, remove the mission complete/start screens, and I feel like that's what it would resemble. Only downside really is that because it would be removing the end of mission ranking you wouldn't get bonus orbs, but seeing as I'm not all that good at the game yet it's not like I get a lot from that anyway and a bit of grinding would be able to make up for it.
Outside of that... you say the DDMK mod has a buggy Mission Select feature, but what else does it do? I'm looking at the GitHub page and it's honestly not especially clear...
