On their own they're harmless entertainment. That just make glaring mistakes when it comes to being Devil May Cry. That being said DMC as a franchise has a far from perfect Track record, so you gotta take the good with the not so good, and make your own mind in what about this franchise you value.
Thanks that's what I was mainly curious about i just didn't word it the best. I was fine with it being bad/just something to have on to keep my interest in the series until I have time to play since I fully intend to, i just was concerned the anime would spoil the games' story somehow since it uses the same characters. I attempted to play 5 a couple years back on bad advice and just had no clue what was going on and the show reminded me to get around to buying all the games to go through
honestly you could do either or both though most of the demons lady/dante fight are from 3 4 and 5 when the plot of the anime would be more like the timeline of 3 as it's a prequel to 1
People will go from DMC3 to 4 to 5, and sometime skip DMC1 and skipping DMC1 is Absurd because that games story is the most important event of Dante's entire life.
similarly people will play MGS3 and then skip to MGSV and not play Peace Walker which is once again one of the most important events in Snakes story, and you don't at all understand the gravity of what happens in MGSV: Ground Zeroes without Peace Walker, the gravity of what happens in Ground Zeroes informs the tone of MGSV: The Phantom Pain.
This is all while it is always the correct Decision to entire a story in release order, stories aren't meant to be Experienced in Canonical order for the first time, prequels are informed by the events that happen after them, even if Technically a prequel makes sense on it's own. The Young Dante is a great character in DMC3 because we know the man he grows up to be in DMC1
It's funny you mention that cause I made the exact same mistake with the MGS games, I played the first 30 minutes of 5 cause it looked fun then immediately shelved it cause ♥♥♥♥ got crazy and realized I need to go back and play the other ones first cause even if theyre standalone stories my brain just has more questions than answers in terms of context and the world. I haven't bought them yet but I plan to play those in order as well and I wanna play all the DMC games since the bundle came with all 3 (also bought 4 and already owned 5)
You're actually lucky to have waited since the MGS master collection puts about half the games in one Convenient place, and that's Vol.1 so far.
Vol.2 will have the remaining important games, It absolutely has to have Metal Gear Solid 4 because that game is still stuck on the PS3, so a huge Conclusion of so many events people just don't have Access to until Vol.2 is released.
Right now they are hyping up the "MGS3: Snake Eater" Remake with "MGS Delta: Snake Eater" but while I'm sure the remake will be nice it's also Not necessary, since as long as you play MGS1 and MGS2 Beforehand, MGS3 is a perfectly fine game to play once you are Accommodated to the control style already.
The Master Colleciton also containes the Original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which are still canon, and important to the story, but the majority of people never played them due factors like MG2 being on the MSX which is pretty Obscure. MGS1 contained a Summary of those games for those that needed to catch up, and MGS1 works well enough At getting the audience up to speed when it came to MG1 and MG2, it just doesn't give you the full story unless you played those games yourself.
MG1 is rather dated, but no more so then the Original Legend of Zelda on NES, MG2 i'd say holds up rather well considering it's age. It's Similar to A Link to the Past in the way it Refined the controls and design of the first game.
