I started with dmc 3 is that ok?

i am seing alot of people saying that its better to start with 1 or is it still ok?

DMC 1 could be a little hard to get into today due to a camera that was made for a Resident Evil game and stiffer controls. ESPECIALLY after playing 3. So in that sense if you're planning to play both I'd recommend playing 1 first.

If you play only one of them, definitely 3 it's by far the better game. But DMC 1 is well worth playing as well.

I would say it would still be okay since aside from being chronologically first in the series, the tutorial popups give some of the basics (Rolling, Kick Jump, Launcher attacks) unlike DMC1 where you have to figure it out yourself or by heading to the Pause menu.

I also started with 3 :) I figured to play them storyline wise and was told by a friend to play 3, 1, (maybe 2 heard its meh), 4 & 5

If you want to play in chronological order then yeah its fine, since the lore goes 3, 1, 2, 4, 5
