How is DMC 3 a prequel?
Finished it, I don't get why it's a prequel and how it ties to DMC 1

Vergil lost to Mundus after fighting Dante, and he became the Nelo Angelo from DMC1.

didn't know that, how were you supposed to know that playing DMC1 when you didn't even know who is Vergil?

After defeating Nelo Angelo for the third time in DMC1, Dante finds Vergil's half of the amulet. Then it was revealed that it was his brother
