Did any of you once hate the DMC series, but learned to love the series now?

I played and beat DMC1 as a teen, and then got stuck on Beowulf in DMC3 back in the day. The biggest problem for me is I didn't have any idea where any of the health upgrades were, so I'd just die a lot of the time. I didn't appreciate at the time that most enemies don't get put in hit stun when attacked, and how fast you would die.

Playing the game as an adult, with a guide to know all the locations of blue orbs, and being able to watch how people deal with boss fights I would get stuck on really improved my experience with DMC3. I know understand why the game is so popular, it truly makes a lot of other action games these days look bad by comparison. Just recently I managed to get 100% achievements, and can say it's definitely in my top 50 games of all time now.

It's possible you played the Original version of DMC3, (not special edition) That original release in the west was actually harder then the Japanese version. Easy and Normal were bumped up a level, so "Easy" was actually Normal and "Normal" was actually Hard. There were also no Gold orbs, only Yellow orbs, so losing a life without Yellow orbs meant restarting the entire mission. That Original release of DMC3 was brutal for us western players.
