No, sorry. In DMC3 each save files only stores the progress of one character. So, while the game will remember you unlocked Vergil, Dante's journey just got lost in limbo. I know this is hard to hear, but now is the time to mourn.
Your best bet is actually to try your luck with a save online.
welp, that sucks.. but thank you for answering my question, i have finished mourning for my save file as i uninstalled the game... until i feel like replaying/recollecting everything again lmao
now, it's time for a trip back to DMC4SE and unlock things there.
This also happened to me a couple days ago by overwriting my Dante save with my Vergil save, because muscle memory. I was so close to finishing my second playthrough as Dante too and then suddenly I lost like 20 hours of my total progress.
If the save system just defaults to the last loaded file slot instead of the last saved file slot, this issue would probably not happen to players so frequently.
Let this be a lesson to have multiple saves of the same progress, especially for this game.
At least with experience, you could beat the game faster in less than 4-5 hours than the first playthrough which took me like 10 hours to get better at the game.
couldn't have said it better myself and glad to hear i'm not missing out on the DMC3 experience and that i'm now a part of the club lmao.. yea, could make it so they update the way saving is handled to ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen buuuuuut.. this game did originally come out for the PS2 and that's just how it was back then
still... can't help but think that jester gets the last laugh
as I have been told.. Welcome to the club!
OH!! thanks very much!!!.. will keep this in mind if i really don't feel like replaying everything again in DMC3SE.
Unfortunately, you are not... fortunately welcome to the club!!! Someone did link a save file in this thread if you don't feel like going through all of the secret missions with Dante.
to quote Lady(ish):
Maybe somewhere out there even a devil may cry when he loses a save file. Don't you think?
F
May the prayers of all fallen saves' heroes be with you.
It is bittersweet to see new members of the club, but at least you can take comfort in knowing you are not alone... on the other hand, think of the new game journey as the road to more POWERRRRR
