DMC2 deserves a complete remake far more than Resident Evil 4. RE4 is still a perfect masterpiece as-is.
It's made worse by the fact that every melee weapon is a reskin of the others with essentially just stat changes and no abilities to unlock, that's something even DMC1 got right.
Story is somehow worse than in the first game, with Dante being more of a edgelord written by some teenager going through a phase.
Enemies and bosses are all incredibly forgettable, every single one of them. The only bosses I can remember are those that were so laughable I don't think i'll ever be able to forget them.
There are some improvements compared to the first game, like the camera that's actually manageable in DMC 2, but they're too few to compensate for the parts that are lacking.
And the only DMC game that could put someone to sleep.
Second worst, but I'd actually put 2 as worse since the combat is literally hold a button to win. DmC still extremely mid combat though.
You know, I thought the hate was just exaggerated, but after 30 mins of that game I can't imagine forcing my limbs or my mind to play it any longer. I was intrigued by the brooding level design and music, but the gameplay might as well not exist.
Just skip to 3 if you haven’t already cause 2 has nothing
Thats why :)
The story is damn near nonexistent. You got called in to take care of a problem. You go and kill the bad guy, simple as that. No real reason for anything happening other than just Freddie "Heihachi" Mercury wanting to be the new demon lord.
Dodging is clunky, and you'll get your butt slapped all over trying to fight 90% of the bosses head on, because half of the bosses weren't designed with enough time for you to react and dodge. UNLESS you want to do one hit, and then run, which means you just simply wont get that S rating or even a B rating. which probably explains why theres no unlockables tied to your ratings, because even the devs realized it would be booty cheeks.
Speaking of which, there's so few enemies that getting a good rating is difficult, you have to hope enough enemies spawn because you'll end up killing them too fast to earn anything. On top of that you HAVE to spam guns in order to keep your combo alive, which the guns already dont do much damage to begin with.
Infected Chopper, nuff said. Solid cool idea and sequence, Literal feces boss fight. Way too many aerial enemies for a piss poor air combo system.
Dante also sucks in this game, gameplay wise. You try to double jump to shoot, you end up shooting downwards cause you pressed too early. Lucia's moveset is far better and it seems like they actually tried to make the game fit to her moves.
DMC1, while it didn't have a lot of stuff here, was a far more smoother experience. Atleast you could do sword cancels, It's shallow combo system actually worked decently enough, and once you got the hang of it, S ranks weren't really a problem.
Not a completely terrible game by any means, but to go from DMC1 to 2? I was severely disappointed, If someone had told me this was a indie title or a knockoff that got rebranded into DMC, I'd 100% believe you.
I didn't want to believe it was as bad as everyone said, so I played it this week.
Man, it's worse than everyone says. The Dante disc is clearly one of the worst and most boring games I've played in my life. I forced myself through it simply because I'm a completionist, and it wasn't worth it. This video sums it up perfectly.
The Lucia disc on the other hand? They just recycled some of Dante's playthrough, but actually made combat somewhat fun, added new gameplay elements and cut some of the most tedious sections. It's still one of the lamest games I've seen, but if you want to play DMC2, at least skip the Dante playthrough and only play the Lucia one.
After getting really good at the DMC series as an adult, I can see how awfully clunky this game is. It doesn't have the detail, or atmosphere that 1 has. It doesn't have the polish or feel that 3 has. It's boring, brown, and bland. It's like they had so many great ideas but were forced to release the game when it was only 40% completed.
