I'm postiive steam could works. I play the game on two different computers.
Try deleting you save files, they will re-download when you restart the game.

Hey, now. It's simple to just stick your save file on a USB and transfer it between installations. Or over the LAN. Or even set up a symlink to a network share.
There's convenience, and then there's just laziness.
And really, the Steam Cloud is often more trouble than it's worth. It's ridiculous that we still can't directly access and delete steam cloud data and have to jump through hoops to trigger the conflict dialog in order to force a fresh upload or download.
