OK, I think we have the same problem. For some reason, xbox one controller goes crazy when you launch DMC 1 (but no issues with DMC 2 and 3). Tried with PS4 controller and same outcome. Big Picture Mode did not help either.

What worked for me: Go to options in DMC 1 and change CONTROLLER SETUP to TYPE A (for some reason it was set to TYPE B). It's not straight forward because the controls are messed up, but try this: in main menu, press down on d pad a few times until you open Options screen. In Options screen, press lb to move down to controller setup. Then, press any button to change it to type A.

I can't remember which one I pressed and can't replicate the problem anymore. Hope this helps
