"Sometimes, before you kill shadow, he will try and grab you then suicide."
They always do that.
"From what I've read, Devil May Cry was supposed to be a "Resident Evil" series game, but then they made it an independent game."
It was originally supposed to be RE4 and there was going to be an investigator named Tony Redgrave that naturally became Dante once development shifted to a different action game. Because of this, originally the game didn't even have a jump button. You can't even jump in the earliest trial version. Anyway, Vergil was also in the original RE4 plot and it was implied that the twins were owned by Umbrella. Other curiosities... Marionettes were originally stitched up zombies and an early version of DMC1 had Griffon spawn Griffon Babies during combat. A texture with the text "Griffon baby" still exists in the game's leftover textures, as well as metallic mask item, a crystal skull item, a laser gun and "Alastor" was originally the "Air" element equipped to Force Edge, which used to be simply the name given to the Alastor sword we know today. "Terra" was the fire element and would allow you to perform fire punches and kicks.
"There's an item few people know about that replaces the devil trigger with "time slowing", called "Time Bangle". As it replaces the devil trigger activation, it also consumes devil trigger."
It's called the Bangle of Time and it doesn't slow time, it freezes enemies and Nelo Angelo in place. Nelo Angelo is the only boss affected by it.
"You can skip first Griffon's appearance if you already have Ifrit, just light up the torch near the door and in you go."
You can pick up a massive Red Orb that gives you iirc 500 orbs in place of Ifrit. Also, when you return to this area after mission 14, there will also be an Untouchable on the same pedestal.
"If you spam "Meteor" skill (fire ball throwing) on Nelo Angelo, he won't be able to attack you back. This also works with animation canceling of the first sword strike (search youtube for a better explanation)"
Nelo Angelo will eventually break free from the loop.
"Even though Frosts might take a load of time to kill, you can actually kill them with 2 well placed "Inferno" hits."
A fully charged Meteor also works.
Do you have any sources for that? If there are videos showing that specific version without the jump, I'd be interested to see it.

Ah, yeah, it'll be interesting to read that quote. I'd imagine the jump must have been decided in the first half of development... If not, that's a whole lot of work for them. Phantom and Nightmare in particular seem like they were designed with jumping in mind, as well as normal enemy types such as the Shadow and the largest Scythe enemy. Then all the platforming throughout the game that isn't compatible with grappling or ledge leaps. Lots and lots of aspects that work with it.
Ah, yeah, definitely earlier in development. Still very cool, and it maybe suggests that could be one reason for ledge leaping, and ledge jumps.
All I said is that you can skip Griffon. Didn't say you should. Read again. I actually just skipped it once so this "fact" is recent for me.
Nop, check at 16:50 https://youtu.be/EJbWp93_ezw?t=16m50s
You already beat the game on Dante Must die so...
It was a "fun fact", not a walkthrough...
