As for the rest of the game, eh. My dominate feeling throughout my time was boredom. There were a few moments that were fun, but any enjoyment is spoiled a bit by both the attacks feeling a but slow combined with an inability to evade in any way while attacking.
I do agree that the game has some cool designs. I just love Lucia's DT.
It's a completely different level of difficulty. In fact, I'd say DMC2 on normal is just as easy as DMC1 on easy-auto. You fight the same way in both modes. You beat everything by shooting from a distance and there is really no incentive to melee on a game where almost all enemies are vulnerable to range attacks, have predictable range attacks and are dangerous at melee.
I wanted to melee everything, but what's the point if I can kill them safely from the distance? The first game at least forced you to realize that it was a good idea to melee in some instances by making you fight in close encounters against them and also by making a lot of enemies very resistant to ranged weapons. In DMC2, everything is wide open, there is no need to get close to anything to kill it. Maybe on hard is different but it looks like I have to beat the game again with Lucia to unlock that? Sigh.
The movement on the character feels so bad in both games, as if he can only move in 8 directions. And the camera is atrocious, half the time I don't know what I'm shooting in both games. But when I try to get close because I'm getting bored, I get hit by a proyectile from outside the screen that I couldn't have possibly seen. So why get close? Just keep shooting everything until they die from that place where you are safe. They have no answer for it. So boring
Also the level design on DMC2 is just lazy compared to DMC1. DMC1 made you go from one location to another on the same place, going back and forth on that mansion, it felt like Dark Souls 1 almost on a very small scale. I mean as if there was a lot of thinking as to where everything should be. DMC2 is more like Dark Souls 2. You go from point A to point B and the level ends there. Kind of lazy compared to the first one.
Both the gameplay and the story is bad on both games. They both aged horribly. These two are bad games.
And 1 more thing.
DMC2 IS NOT EASY
Try to beat the game on DMD difficulty without using any items.
Or, Try to beat the game on DMD difficulty with all S Rank.
That's like saying running a mile is hard... if you do it on bare feet on a track full of broken glass. Well, yeah, it's hard running that way. But under "normal" conditions it's not. This game on normal is easier than DMC1 on normal and it's an easy game.
I've beaten DMD without items (you're not supposed to use items in DMC anyway) and it's not particularly hard. S ranks however, I don't know what's going on with those, the requirements are super strict. I literally never get S ranks in DMC2.
hope Lucia's in DMC5
The calculation of the ranking system is really stupid in DMC2, and there is an ironic thing, in some mission(for example, Dante's M15) you have to use items(like devil star) to filled up your devil trigger and finish the enemy quickly. if you dont use items, it will take a really long time to complete the mission. And you won't get a S rank after the game.
So if you want to get an all S rank in every single mission. some of them(like M15) YOU HAVE TO USE ITEM to make sure you finish this mission quickly. Otherwise you wont get a S.
I only got 2 DMD S Rank, and that was just like a torture.
My mistake.
If you just want to know the story, try to beat up the game. Then DMC2 is definately not a hard task.
However, If you want to become better, want to learn more strategy or tricks, or you want to challenge yourself. Then DMC2 is the HARDEST one in the whole DMC series.
This should sound better- -
