DMC2 Trismagia on must die
This boss is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm trying it as Lucia, and I don't even know how you're supposed to beat it. It takes forever to get into the one vulnerable phase when he's the 3 heads, and even then I can barely put out enough damage to do anything.

Please tell me there's some sort of strategy for this awful ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boss.

When the heads are separated, one of the faces can be hit, you can figure out which one, by shooting them and see if they take damage. When one of the heads comes to you to throw a hit, you can hit them with your sword, try hitting the back of it, because if you try hitting in the front, you'll probably get recked. Use your DT when the faces combine, that way you can dish out the biggest ammount of damage in one go. Hope this helps.

You really took me back 15 years ago, I remember being HOURS to beat this guy on DMD...with Dante, I remember I "cheated" by using the "super devil trigger" (when you turn devil trigger in red health), with Lucia...there is always one head that loses health, just focus on that, and never stop dodging with B.

Lucia is the worst one to be fighting Trismagia, so I'd recommend sticking with Trish. Round Trip + Luce & Ombra help a lot in building up your DT (I try not to use items) and also you should not be mashing the dodge button all willy nilly. Pretty much all projectiles are avoidable by dodging in a single direction. Just wait for them to get close to you as possible and start dodging either from the far left to the right or vice-versa.

As mentioned before, only one of the three heads will take damage. While holding the R1/RB, push L3/LS to switch targets. Aim at one head, shoot a couple times and watch the health bar. If it wiggles, that's the one head that takes damage, so keep shooting it. Throw Round Trip when it's safe to do so.
When the ice head throws large chunks of ice onto the platform is when you should be concerned as they get in the way of your dodges and it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll fail to dodge every projectile... so break those ice blocks as quickly as possible EXCEPT one of them. If the platform is completely clear of them, the ice head will simply throw more, but as long as you keep one on the platform for the rest of the battle, you will not need to deal with it again.

When the lightning head comes close to you, just stand still as it will shoot large rings of lightning that usually don't hit you, provided you're not too close nor too far from the head. If you move left or right, the rings will hit you. Throw Round Trip when you see it hovering toward you.

When the ice head comes close to you, it will try to breathe cold air onto you, then quickly move away. The fog it leaves behind is volatile so just stay away from it but take this as an easy opportunity to throw Round Trip at it too.

When the fire head comes close, it will track your movement like the other two and once close enough, it will begin to breathe fire. Just wait at the last second and dodge to the side to stay away from the fire. This is the only head that is almost completely safe to attack from the side when it gets close, so when you see it coming, pause the game and equip the Chrono Heart, Frost Heart and Aerial Heart. Wait for it to start breathing fire, jump and DT to go into Air Raid mode and start slicing the head as many times as you can.

When the heads join, wait until you can lock-on to Trismagia. Then, DT and use Trish's Air Raid shot for as long as possible as her golden projectiles deal a ton of damage. Keep the Flame Heart and Offense Heart equipped to deal as much damage as possible.
In order to make this as quick and painless as possible, right before your DT runs out, immediately pause the game, use a large Devil Star and keep shooting.

If you still would rather use Lucia... it's much, much harder to avoid dodging all the projectiles as her, so that's one of the reasons I recommend using Trish. Her projectiles are also weaker than Trish's and her Air Raid melee attack moves her forward, which can potentially put you in harm's way.

Forgot about Trish and round trip! yes, that does wonders against Tri

One small correction on my strategy: the Chrono Heart doesn't actually work on Trismagia. So just keep the Offense Heart on.

I logged in and found this discussion again just to thank you for this, literally the most miserable part of a miserable game experience. I didn’t even think of trying to hit them with round trip, once I targeted the right head that did more damage than air raid! But sincerely, thank you, the final boss was a breeze by comparison and I never would’ve made it without your advice.

Glad I could help with this horrible game, at last my wasted years playing it made some use lol.
Since I'm here, might as well add some more tips. So when playing as Trish (or Dante, but she's better equipped for this boss) , the best Devil Heart for maximizing dps on this boss is the Frost Heart. The Flame Heart only gives a damage boost, and the Frost Heart only makes enemies stagger for an extra split second with the boosted hitstun of all of your attacks.
However, because Trish's handguns have the fastest rate of fire, the stagger effect is tremendous.

Basically while DT firing the guns, you slow down a head's movement as long as it's the one that takes damage, thus it stays out longer, thus you have much better optimized dps. However, Round Trip negates hitstun, so don't use it while DT'd.

The joined head suffers more damage than any of the individual heads so you want to conserve DT until they're joined.

I gotta be honest, this game is absolutely terrible as everyone knows, but you know something? This boss fight would be really fun in DMC3-4-5. With a bit of an adjustment here and there, add more platforms you can jump to, tweak boss AI, make melee weapons more effective, etc. Could be pretty cool! Methinks.
I like this boss, honestly. But it could've even so much more engaging.
