DMD is ridiculous...
I remember there being a massive difficulty spike, but jeez, this is crazy. Nelo Angelo went from being a challenge to insane, and Griffon went from being easy to being ridiculously hard.

I don't even want to know what Nightmare will be like. So far, Nelo Angelo is the only fun one on this difficulty. If I can beat Nelo 3 without items, then that's all I care for. The rest will get cheesed super hard, except for Nightmare 1... I'll want to give him a go without items.

Yeah, I use Ifrit + Grenade launcher for Nelo Angelo. It's just so much fun countering him with it.

I'll try Ifrit on Nightmare 1 initially, but with how difficult Griffon was... I'm definitely expecting to cheese him with Alastor + Air Raid. On Hard, I find Nightmare fun, but I remember DMD Nightmare being true to his name. :/

I never remember dying much to DMD Griffon, so that's what worries me. I probably cheesed him on the PS3 and forgot what I did... I died dozens of times trying to be fancy with Ifrit. Wasn't working out at all.

Nightmare 3 is universally considered to be the most difficult boss battle in the game. However, there's something very important you should do to make this battle less difficult.

Nightmare has 2 cores, one on top and one in the back. The more you attack them, depending on which attacks you use, the more they will crack. Each core has 3 states, blue, green and red. Blue is the default state. If you keep attacking it with any sword, eventually it turns green. While green, it has lower defense and it will take more damage but naturally it will break faster and it will stay exposed for a shorter period of time.
Once it turns red, it will have the highest defense but it will stay exposed the longest.
The problem? The game remembers which cores you've broken during the same playthrough. If you broke both cores in the first encounter, they will remain broken during the second and third encounters.

However, you can pretty much avoid either core shattering at all if you stick to using fully charged Ifrit PPKK combo, overall you will hit it fewer times and deal the most damage while DT'd. So if you've been relying on using any of the swords during DMD and you get to the third battle with both cores in the red... you're faced with a really long stressful ordeal. The best strategy (if I recall correctly) is to keep the top core blue and make the back core green in the second encounter, seeing as the back core typically stays exposed the longest of the two anyway. Avoid using any other attacks. Inferno is typically a terrible idea and the DT Auto Combo can and will shatter the core so avoid using that as well. Rule of thumb: Fully charged Ifrit PPKK all the way.

Then the safest strategy for the final stage of Nightmare 3 when it goes completely haywire, blasting lasers in all directions, is to spam Vortex with full DT and destroy it before anything hits you.

And if you think DMC1's DMD is ridiculous... wait until you get to DMC2's.

Oh, I never had an issue with DMC2. I cheesed that one super hard... although, I do remember the battle with the head that comes out of the building to be pretty darn tough. Other boss battles were challenging too, but with the guns and the DT... if I remember right, I could get by with far less skill.

I never knew the green core actually lowered the defense... I definitely need to try that out. I always assumed the colours just increased the defense further.

Surprisingly, I beat Nightmare 1 on my first try. I had to go fight Phantom though for a health refil...

Nelo 3 was easier than I was expecting, but I didn't counter him nearly as much as I wanted to. Played it super safe, and built up DT for fire balls. Now I just have Nightmare 2, Nightmare 3, and Mundus.

I have 33 untouchables, or 35 with the remaining two to collect... haven't used a single one yet, but I think that'll change with Nightmare 3. The damage output and spamming of Nightmare just isn't that fun.

I just played Hard several times to prepare myself. I got 5 untouchables every time, so I only had to beat the game 6 times. I used two on Nightmare 3, and now I'll use however many Mundus 2 needs. His fight lasts way too long for it to be fun.

I see.
I looked it up and found out that there are 5 untochable you can pick up pre playthough. plus the one you can buy if you do it before picking up any, 16 would be more then enough to get though DMD comfortably if you wanted to use them for the bosses.

DMC2 DMD is less of a challenging game and more of a test of patience, through and through. It's no wonder most people who play it simply cheese it with guns/missile launcher/roundtrip/bombs etc. but once you try to get S ranks in every mission, it turns into an impossible task. I'm pretty sure nobody in the history of ever as gotten S ranks in every single mission on every mode without cheating (infinite DT not widstanding).

I have never understood complaints about game's with bad cameras. I'v always had good spatial awareness, So i'v never felt the need to blame a camera for my faults as a player.
