Should I play the longest journey before playing this?
Or should I jump right into this game.

I would play the longest journey first. Up to you though. Its a little tougher, but very rewarding.

I grew up playing the Longest Journey 1, it is an amazing game I loved it and it is really inspiring with its art, It is however an aged game. Bear that in mind when looking at some of the graphics. The first game is trully the best of the series so far, the second one is more modern and dont have as much of that "Mystery" feeling as the first, but I would play them 1, 2. That way you might get more invovled with the characters. Sorry for late responce hehe probobly too late by now.

Definitely play TLJ first. It introduces a few of the characters you'll run into and/or play in Dreamfall, and puts some little in-jokes (the "completely irrelevant mystery door" made me chuckle) and conversations into context. I'm sure you could play Dreamfall on its own, but since the series is so strongly story-driven, I feel you'd be missing out on some of the immersive experience. :)

I played TLJ a few times, I only just found Dreamfall this year and I have to say playing TLJ first has certainly made this game much more enjoyable. It's nice to be back in the universe and see old characters again! You get to understand the backgrounds and get a lot more of the references :3
Play The Longest Journey First. The only value to Dreamfall is that it continues the story of TLJ but TLJ is absolutely amazing.

Play both!! This game can easily be played on it's own and you can (sort-of) "catch up" with relative ease, but TLJ is just such a fantastic game.
And Dreamfall is also worth it. It is not as good as TLJ (I will conceded that point), but it is still a good game!

This being a story driven game, and the second game in the (expanding) series, I would DEFNITELY play TLJ first. It's longer, and the interface is different, but you get used to it pretty quickly, and the story is awesome.

I played a bit of the second game first(5 months ago?) then ragequit over some part. Haven't played TLJ yet. I really should tho

Both games tie together due to it being very story driven, but you don't have to play the first one to understand the second one, the story gets explained in the second one anyway.

I played Dreamfall before TLJ and I kinda regret that. It was the 1st game I had seen in a store when I got my first really capable gaming PC, so I bought it and loved it. Didn't play TLJ until a year or two later, then I replayed Dreamfall right after and it was a better experience. Imo, TLJ is a bit better of a game because it was a much more pure point & click style adventure. They are both fantastic, though. I'd say that, for my tastes at least, they are both as close to perfect as games could get.

Edit: Ah crap, I just noticed the dates on some of these posts. I'm quite late to the party. I'd only seen the "Aug 17" and not the "2013" on the op. Sorry.

Play the longest journey! Both these games are some of the best Adventures ever made. Have fun!
