[SOLVED] Massive stuttering freezes
As good of a game as Mordhau is, It's being made unplayable for me by intermittent stuttering freezes. I am playing on a relatively high-end machine, and every 20 seconds or so during games, my game will freeze with guttural sounds for 1-3 seconds, effectively ruining the experience for me.

I'm sure my drivers all all up to date. I've tried lowering settings and deleting the recommended Nvidia file. None of this has helped.

Specs:
AMD FX 9370
AMD Radeon R9 290x
16 GB DDR3 RAM

Here is how you fix the problem, it is something to do with realtek audio cards and amd fx cpu's, if your game works with no freezing if you turn the audio off then you have this problem.
Navigate in your game files to your config, it should be here E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Mordhau\Engine\Config
Open the BaseEngine Configuration setting file
Scroll to the bottom of the file and you will see "[Messaging]
bAllowDelayedMessaging=false"
hit enter after this line twice to make sure you format correctly, and then paste this.
[/script/engine.audiosettings]
bDisableMasterEQ=True
save the file and start up mordhau, your freezing should be fixed.

I have a similar Issue, I have a AMD FX-8370 and it will run perfectly with the audio turned off. I had the same issue in the game The Isle and Hunt Showdown.

Come to think of it with the guttural sounds when it freezes, I think it might be some sort of audio issue rather than graphical.

Yep, same issue. Haven't received any helpful advise. Love the game but it's unplayable. Your description is 100% accurate.

The AMD FX cpu's don't handle UE4 well, so there is your issue.

I was having the same issue but I managed to fix it! AMD FX-6300. I'll post the thread, but a couple other people tried it and it did not work for them. https://mordhau.com/forum/topic/14637/stuttering-and-freezing-issues/?page=2#c22

I tried the aftermath part and it did make the game load much faster but i still get the freezing and stuttering with audio on. If i delete the configs i get an error message though.

Come to think of it, back when Paragon existed, I had the exact same problem with that game. It may very well be an issue with UE4 itself. I know that the UE4 devs are particularly fond of Nvidia and tend to pay less attention to optimization for AMD systems.

Intel CPU here and I have the same issue.
I have an AMD GPU though, so the issue might concern anything AMD perhaps, not only CPU ?

I've used AMD CPUs for 10+ years, not switching now for one game, hah. The Dev team is small but hopefully they're working on what the issue is, perhaps they're in contact with UE4 and/or AMD. I deleted the Aftermath file as well, loads faster and stuttering is "less" but still does it, especially on Horseback.

AMD FX 8-core 4000 Mhz.

its actually a engine issue, its also present for years in Squad, it has to do with the sound system having to calculate more than intel cpu's have to do. This was fixed in the AMD Ryzen CPU's.

Same here, but thankfully it's not in every match. Running on a GTX 2080 Ti and i9-9900k.
