Characters use their feet (WASD) and their arms (Mouse) to change the time at which the swing or stab connects.
Combine said swing manipulation with ripostes (Parrying and attacking), chambers (attacking mirrored to the enemy) and footwork.
A few hours on a duel server with a patient teacher and you will begin to see the game as Rock Paper Scissors. The more experienced players can trick you into expecting Rock and quickly switch to Paper or Scissors.
For me being successful in game comes from being able to stay calm and read the information that's on screen. What are the enemy(s) doing? Is it going to hit me? Should I parry and riposte or feint or chamber or dodge and punish? Should I run and get help from my team?
You don't have to fight every fight you are in. You can ride the wave and bounce between fights and cause chaos.
Good luck my friend.
1. CHANGE YOUR CONTROLS!! Really, the 240 binds that use camera movement to pick attack angles are dumpster tier. I have all seven angles bound to their own keys, so I can pick what I want on the spot. Took a while to get used to it, but it was well worth it. My binds are:
Q- Left Overhead
MWheel Down- Right Overhead
LMB- Right Horizontal
MButton Up- Left Horizontal
Left Alt- Left Underhand
MButton Down- Right Underhand
MWheel Up- Thrust (Technically uses 240 to pick which thrust angle, but it doesn't really matter. All Thrusts are under one chamber angle.)
RMB- Defense (Context sensitive; Acts as parry input when idle, but will instead act as feint input when in attack windup. Can feint-to-parry (FTP) if two inputs are buffered close enough together.)
2. Learn the basics. Here's a video that isn't terribly outdated that explains most of the mechanics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jtnsIjDGfY&list=PLsgjM__q7qwf9SOhgxp2iPz3DqWTmAuOj&ab_channel=Trix
3. Practice with pubs. Duel servers are mainly for the top 1% who have both god-tier connection to the server and ability to use the "dark arts" of Mordhau. Avoid these, as most just spam super janky techs that are very close to being flat out exploits. It will NOT be fun, and you will learn nothing.
4. Turn on Debug Parry. This will give you a red text notification when lag screws you over out of your parry, and will let you know if it's even worth the pain of fighting any particular player. Hit Tilde, then type in m.debugnetworkparry 1 to activate. The console will save your typing history, so you can use your arrow keys to copy-paste this command. Note that you need to do this EVERY time you enter a server.
So there some tips :
Don't take it too serious , try to find fun.
Press TAB and read about 5 top enemy names. Avoid them )
To have some fun - take 9-9-9 armor, Zwei or Maul or exec sword. and go from back or 2,3x1 )) dont go 1x1 in Pub. Pub and duel server are different game style.
Dont think about fietn, chamber. One key is enough to kill in pub ))
Practice to read enemy attack.
But if u hard player - there are very useful advideses (up in topic) go to duel serever, find 30-100 lvl and ask to teach
GL. We;r happy to meet new players on servers )
240 is fine. It's just preference, really.
Now where you are completely wrong is Duel servers, those are a great if not the best place for noobs to learn the mechanics and really improve at playing the game. Simply ask more experienced players to teach you the basics, some of them will gladly walk you through the steps and show you how to perform more elaborate moves. If you just stay in Pubs, it will take way longer to improve, if at all.
Clearly shows you did NOT learn anything about weapon range yet.
Hit detection is pretty much on point imho. "Half a meter away" doesnt hit you.
First of all your FOV seems close to 90 which distorts vision around the borders, second of all...you are moving forward, your right arm moves forward when you move your feet even as you stop, hitting you, this is not properly represented on first person view.
The waxe tracers can still kill you if they hit you on the other side...as can any weapon too, it's the reason wessex and underhand wessex work currently. Literally if you turned the camera to the left you would have dodged that.
Hit detection is on point...you walked into the back of the waxe, likely with your right arm. The game may be grounded, but it avoids realism if it-s not feasible or simply not fun.
