Shield on back, does it do anything?

When i'm fighting sometimes I pick up a shield from the floor to put on my back. Does this protect me at all or am I wasting my time. If it does protect me, how much damage does it deflect and does it slow down my movement?

It will block arrows. I don't think weapons or shields slow you down either.

Pavise on back is always a good choice! It blocks javs, throwing axes, arrows etc
. Same for other shields they just smaller so they dont protect as well.
If you take pavise in hand and storm at archers it will block their arrows. It can even be used to block the blunderbussy.

It passively protects you from all projectiles, whats cool is that if a weapon is stuck in your shield, you can keep it!
