Is Flesh Wound Popular?
Hey all. Still learning the game as a newbie tbh. Wondering if the fleshwound perk is popular.

At face value, having one last chance to land one more hit could conceivably make a win/lose difference in duels every now and again. If your opponent is playing defensively and waiting for you to bleed out, they're more likely to parry early to your morph attack right?

Am I correct in thinking this? I just completed tutorial last weekend...

The tutorial is really out of date, we've been begging for a new one for years now. Fleshwound is banned in comp AFAIK and its considered a wee bit rude to duel with it unless you're a naked maul man - you have the right idea though; it can buy you that time to get one last hit.
Since you're new here are some tips:

Maintain initiative, do not leave awkward gaps between parries and ripostes. if you hesitate for a second that gives them enough time to sneak a hit in.
Dealing with someone who feints a lot? That's the time to chamber.
Drags and accels are generally harder to read when done as a riposte.
If you're fighting multiple people, you're supposed to lose. It's a big skill curve and its something that veteran players are still bad at. Commonly referred to as "1vX".
Keybinds are important, make sure you're comfortable with what you have - however weird it may be. If you have extra mouse buttons I'd bind over/under swings to those as the scroll wheel will absolutely wear out over time. Also recommend unbinding walk and binding sprint to W.
Alt modes are only really useful on polearms, mordhau grip and half-swording reduces your reach way too much and provides little benefit.
64 player servers are 30 tick, 48 player servers are 60 tick, I believe brawl and ranked run on 120 tick but I'm not entirely sure. Community duel servers often run 120 tick.
If a level 210+ is kicking your ass, ask them what you are doing wrong. As a side note, after lvl200 the xp requirement to level up is increased roughly 10x. Most 200s are really nice, they're just sort of the boogeyman of Mordhau because at that point playing well is muscle memory.

Hope some of this helps!

Thank you very much for that wealth of advice!

I don't know what you mean when you say that fleshwound is "banned in comp afaik". What does "comp" mean? Are you saying I would receive a ban for using a perk that is part of the game or that certain community servers have disabled it entirely?

Please forgive me for asking so many questions. I am still practicing riposte, morph attacks, and chambering in the tutorial and haven't jumped into pvp yet really.

I'm also admittedly interested in going for the "ended rightly" achievement, so not only am I interested in how viable this perk is for myself, but also wondering how often I will encounter others using it.

"comp" is shorthand for competitive play. Not ranked, although its banned there too, comp is community organized and thus has their own set of rules/modifications. They really theory craft, and so the implication was that there's a thought out reason that has been agreed on in order to ban it.
You have to really mess up to get banned in Mordhau. Either by profuse bigotry, prolific griefing, or cheating. So I wouldn't worry about that too much. Some communities do have flesh wound disabled along with projectiles n such. You can still use classes that had those things in that case, but the banned items/perks themselves will be removed.
"Ended Rightly" is pretty much only achieved by throwing the pommel at someone in fleshwound. There's a very specific longsword combo that can leave people at 1 health but I forget what it is offhand.
I'm more than happy to answer a million other questions, its not every day a new player jumps into the game with the desire for immediate mechanical improvement - and its not like Mordhau has a manual to tell you every little bit of terminology and strategy.

Thank you again! I promise these will be my last questions. How popular is fleshwound in, for lack of a better word, casual pvp? Are there specific communities where I am more likely to encounter players with that perk than others?

I'd say about 7-12% of players regularly run fleshwound. You're more likely to find someone using it on a large duel server or late at night when people are goofing off. Dwarves are likely to have it, as are naked maul men and other lightly armored players.

Thank you very much! No further questions from me, just posting to say I appreciate all the information you have given me. Really helps me to plan.
