The backend data has to be stored somewhere, and the game needs to access that information.
Your gold, level, items unlocked etc has to be retrieved before you can use them. You can't spend gold or gain gold/xp if there's no backend to update your stats.
That information has to be stored in the cloud, online, and if there's a network issue preventing those servers from being accessible for some reason, either on your end or on their end, it will fail to connect.
Restart your game, service should now be resuming, so you'll just have to keep trying until it lets you connect.
How about storing it locally, like every other game, instead of worrying about people figuring out how to spoof gold like it matters anyways when people have millions of gold and all the unlocks anyways?
why can't we just have the option to play in an offline mode through steam that will basically be a sandbox mode that you have everything unlocked and anything you do there has no impact on your online profile.
like I want to be able to play mordhau with bots on my 12hr flight. ..
It would certainly be possible to create an "offline mode", I just don't think it's going to be a priority for the developers, unfortunately.
You only need the internet to get past the initial loading screen and reach the main menu, after that you should be able to access a local match even without an internet connection. I've not really tested this though, but it should work from what I understand.
I tried it, use internet connection for just the log in and then disconnected the WIFI.
I entered an offline match with bots and I got booted out of it a few minutes later.
I hope they will find a way that you will be able to have 2 types of accounts that one of them is the one that is saved on the backend server and the 2nd is saved on your local files.
you can only log into online servers with your account that is on the backend server but when that isn't accessible the game will load the one that is saved on the local files and you can only use it in local matches.
