Do shields work to block arrows when they're on your back?

I've been using them for my classes if I have extra points, but I don't feel like I'm blocking any extra arrows, does it even work or have I been scammed?

All shields will block arrows when unequipped and on your back.

That being said, when firing at your back, your sides, arms, legs, and head are mostly unprotected.

For the absolute BEST coverage against getting shot in the back by archers, take a pavise shield. It acts more like a deployable shield, but it'll block arrows for your upper chest and head.
